Should an AK47 bolt stay open when pulled back about half way, or pulled back and slowly ridden forward? From disassembly it seems to be held by the hammer. If it is pulled back and released normally, it depresses and rides over the hammer. If pulled back part way or ridden forward it does not have enough momentum to depress the hammer, so it remains "locked" back. Is this normal operation or a defect? If it is a defect, what seems to be the problem?

It will loosen up as you shoot it.

Don't trust that bolt holdback, it jars loose with supprising ease! If your thinking about barrel cleaning or other tricky stuff, remove the top cover and the recoil spring at least so the dumb thing dosen't snap shut and supprise you. Remove magazine first! and rack out any chambered round!! (DOUH!)

Getting a finger caught in the chamber by the bolt group has to be among the most painful things I've ever gotten my hand caught in!! Wait a minute, that doesn't sound right.........

It's real simple, just follow steering and flow with it. You see, Ironhand's my thing!!
