View Full Version : SAR2 lefthanded???
I'm thinking about getting an AK74 SAR-2. I am a lefty so I my question is this, if I'm standing behind you,at what o'clock would the cases be flying?
------------------
mine seems to throw them at about 2:30, i.e. somewhere between 2:00 & 3:00. I think that your left cheek is safe.
HTH
------------------
My left cheek would be safe, but what about my right one? I guess my right arm is safe if it ejects at 3 o'clock.
------------------
Well your right cheek wouldn't be a problem unless the gun ejected at 5:00 or 6:00. As for your right arm it will be below and behind the ejection port.
You're safe all around.

BIN, I'm a lefty. While I haven't tried a -74 yet, I've used a wide variety of AKs in the past few years.
Never had a problem with the ejecting cases.
Your cheeks are safe with Mikhail!

Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone renounced violence forever? I could then conquer
the whole stupid planet with just a butter knife.
Thanks for the replies, I think I'm gonna get a SAR-2, I would get the SAR-1 but I already have a SKS-D. Hey Benjamin have you ever shot any of your AK's from the hip before?

BIN: I'm a lefty too, and the only time I've ever been pelted with empty cases from any of the 6 or so AK's I've owned over the years is when 'bump' shooting at hip-level. 1 case out of a magazine will usually strike my right forearm, bounce back to my belly, and then end up on top of my right shoe, but this only happens when doing rapid-fire from down low. When I fire off my shoulder, the empty shells land forward and right of the ejection port. Much better than the hot .30 Carbine shells down the back of the shirt collar or the 223 case hitting my right earlobe. YEEOUCHH!!

It's real simple, just follow steering and flow with it. You see, Ironhand's my thing!!
Cool, thanks for the info. What .223 are you shooting that hits your earlobe? I skipped buying an AR(right side ejection) and I bought a Mini-14 instead for the reason of ejection. I just recently found out about the deflectors on the newer AR's. I still would rather the mini over AR though,AR's are too finikey with ammo and cleaning.I bought a SKS-D because I figured the right side ejection port of an AK would sling brass into my arm. My 10/22 stings my arm a little bit but not enough to keep me from shooting it. It's good to know I can get that AK now. I think the AK74 will be my primary gun to grab once I get that Russian red dot sight.I can get 8 clips with pouches for $50! You can't beat that. How does it feel to get hit in the arm by that brass?

BIN: I was shooting a friend's SP1 AR-15, the kind without the brass deflector. My personal AR's(before I had to sell them. I needed the money, gimme a break!!)both had the 'hump' on the receiver and did a good job of deflecting brass away from me, most often throwing it straight to the side. The M1 Carbine I was shooting managed to lob every spent case right past my head, where the collar of my coat funnelled the HOT case into my shirt! A spent case is thrown from an AK with much force(that's part of the reason they're so DAMN reliable!!)but I wouldn't worry about getting beaned by an empty. It doesn't hurt that much, and besides, if you are shooting it the way you're supposed to, instead of wasting ammo and making dust fly(the 'bump' method), the shells miss you by YARDS.

I wish I would've known all of this three years ago.
