When I purchased my AK it didn't come with a manual. My question is regarding the rear sight. It starts out with a "P" then a 1,2,3 and so on up to 10. What are these increment in. Does the "1" stand for 100 yards or meters and the "2" for 200? What is the proper way to sight this weapon in?
Thanks in advance for your help.

first i HIGHLY reccomend AK/SKS front site adjustment tool, the one made by B-Square is probably the best and most reliable, hefty, and easiest piece to use, costs $15-20
--STAY FAR AWAY from the cheap @ss $5 site tools from tapco or any other place, these bend and break easily
--the front site on the AK/SKS are DAMN TOUGH to move, i bet arnold schwarzanegger would have trouble adjusting them, but there stiff for a very good reason, once there on they wont move, some penetrating oil will help get you started and make it easier

now down to business -- the "P" on the rear site is the battle site, on other AK variations its a "U" or some other weird symbol
the battle site is for hitting man size targets out to 300 meters, notice that if you move your rear site slide up to the 300meter mark, that the "P" and 300 mark is the same height
and of course, 1 is for 100, 2 for 200 and etc
to site in the gun i say start at 25 meters/yards, and make sure the rear site is at 100 meter mark, all the rest of the adjustments will be on the front site (the b-square tool clamps onto the front site and you can shoot with it on --a great feature)

at 25 yards -- shoot and get your windage and hieght set
- grouping Left - move the site pin Left
- grouping High - move the pin UP
move the site pin TO THE GROUP or bullet impact
this is opposite from the US way

once you get good groups at 25meters move the target out to 100, and re-shoot and make final hieght adjustments at 100 (not at 25), the windage shouldnt need anymore adjustments

you can also buy a RPK fully adjustable rear site for the AK for $20 --HTH
