View Full Version : Having trouble with Recoil Buffers.......

Greetings all... I put one on my SAR-1, and no problems. One goes in my pre-ban Norinco and it jams about every 15th round, more so when in rapid fire. The bullet gets caught on the feed ramp, kinda' like an SKS with HP ammo. I bought it from Tapco, and I remember some talk about the buffers being too soft, but this one looks way too hard. I am thinking about filing it down a bit to give the bolt some more room to move back. Any thoughts?.....Thanks

Just chuck the recoil buffer and call it a day. While I have had good luck in all my AK's with the recoil buffer, some people have reported problems. Your arm will tear off before the receiver breaks for lack of not having the buffer.

Dude chuck that buffer it was found that the Tapco buffer's were knock off's for the originals. Go to buffer tech.com and get yourself a real buffer should look clear.

If this is a GREY buffer, and you have documentation that it came from TAPCO...

Contact Buffer Tech - give them the buffer and docs that it came from Tapco. They are likely to replace it with one of theirs. They are not happy that TAPCO did this, and are collecting documentation - you can guess why.

i agree with Hootbro, chuck it. They are useless in an AK.I've never seen any wear at the rear of an AK reciever that would justify the need for one.

Don't chuck it!!!

At least keep it as evidence that Buffer Technologies can use as they move forward on copyright and patent infringement lawsuits. If Tapco is selling pirated copies - and it sounds like they are - we should avoid doing business with Tapco.

On the technical side... I've got a SAR-3, and maybe it's because of the higher pressure of the .223 bashing things about inside more than would be the norm, but I'm glad I installed a Buffer Technologies recoil buffer in it. I'd be inclined to get a genuine one, and if the problem you're having recurs then take a file to it as you suggested in your post.

Amen Sutro...

I sent back TWO "Grey" buffers from Tapco to Buffer Tech - they were splitting at the top after about 100 rounds. BT was kind enough to send me two new CLEAR (ok, yellowish) buffers in return - much more flexible, good quality.

I want to confirm what Buddy Daniels said in his last post. Buffer Technologies is happy to be doing business with Tapco and they are selling our buffers exclusively. Any past differences are behind us.

If your having any problem with our buffers causing malfunctions in your AK, we recommend that you replace the recoil spring. While a weakened recoil spring might work fine in an AK without the buffer, once a buffer is installed it can become an issue due to the slight shortening of the stroke.

What color should these BufferTech buffers be?
Went to BufferTech's website and the picture of the AK buffer IS grey. Have these buffers been made in different colors over time?

Yes, we have made them in different colors. This was mainly done for OEM purposes for Arsenal USA and one other company. Our current AK buffer is neutral or clear in color.
