How many different types are there(I see East German mostly), and are there any problems with some of these AK-74 mags for a new buyer to be aware of??

What the current best price, and where? Thanks!!!

Contact info for Sportsman's mags? I haven't heard of this one before.

I have bought several of the 4 mag pouch deals from Inter-Ordnance. They were new mags and it did include all of the toys listed above. It includes a really neat cleaning brush pull through kit. Nice deal.

There are several variants of these East German mag sets. Some are like the ones Inter Ordnance sells, others are like the
ones Sportsmans Guide and Tapco sells.
Some of the pouches are plain, others are rubberized on the inside.
Tantal's website shows a collection of various mag pouches.

Mike

I ordered many of the mag pouch sets and have as many different numbers on them as I have mags. Interestingly enough, some are wider at the mouth than others (only miniscule) but enough to tell when you shake the mag in the well. Guess it all depends who was on line that day, huh? cya

If I can answer your first question, how many types(countries who manufactured?)of 5.45 bakelite mags are there? E.German, Russian,Bulgarian,Polish, and possibly, North Korean(right folks, saw them in a military parade for the visiting South Korean Pres. on CNN)The Chinese make or made AK74s, as seen in the M.Tokoi book "AK-47 & Variations" The example in the book photo has a steel mag. I am not sure if they ever produced any in the plastics. The Romanian military 5.45 mag is steel. You can see the same pattern in photos of Russian experimental AK74s as found in the book "Kalashnikov Arms"
To get back to what you wanted to know...the DDR bakelite 5.45 mags are the best value for your money. The are finely made and dependable. If you are a Russian collector, as I am, it can get quite expensive. KVar has been running a sale on Russian Izhevsk and Tula mfg. 5.45 AG4 (red bakelite) mags at
$30.00 each. When they first started selling them they were charging $70.00 It's now at a good price range for those who want some real Russian AK74 mags. Again, the DDR mags will work every bit as well in your AK74 as any of the more costly and scarcer Russian ones.If you are interested in the 45 rd. RPK-74 red bakelite mags, they are also around, Bulgarian and Russian. Real sharp.

Yep, E.German are more prevelent out there, I have seen a difference in the E. German mags around the top front bullet edge of them, some are open here some closed, (where they hook into reciever) some of the newer style are more orenge color, mag followers are different. I have some # starting at 9 up to 48. I bought 4 factory 10 Bulgarian black 30 rdrs from K-Var for $30.00 ea to go with my Black stock, but very cheaply made for that price. Any body know who sells Romanian metal ones?
