i'm a new owner in the ak world. seeing all the different mags out there it's hard to decide whicht to buy.
so, metal or polymer?
i've heard that the polymers are tough as all hell.
have any of you had experience with the polymers? and would you suggest them or the steel mags?

I say get a mix of both a half dozen waffles and a half dozen steel mags per AK maybe more if that is what you want. The waffles and the steel mags seem to feed and function equally well though the waffles are really cool looking though a little harder on the fingers to load this is the reason I prefer steel mags for my day to day usage. The lightness of the waffles definetly gives them a tactical edge though. So as I said buy both right now AK mags are in the bargain basement due to quantities so get what you need and a few extras for the sake of posterity. Heck I would like to say buy all you can to screw the antigunners clean out those foriegn countries of pre 94 mags before the close them off completely.
Good luck and remember dont be afraid to look and ask around for the best deal most AK mags work equally well and the design of the gun is not particularly picky about what it eats out of .

welcome to the AK club!
metal or polymer(plastic)? Well, both are basicly good but the plastic ones are more silent to use and lighther to carry. The sound that comes when you attach your mag into gun or carrying the mags in the holster or bergen isn't really problem if you are not in the "business". But if you have to or want to think your weaponry as a military point of view then the polymer comes to its value.
