Just got an email from Progressive Arms. They are supposed to have the BLACK Bulgarian AK-74 5.45mm Polymide magazines ready for sale about the 25th of November.

Price quoted was $14.95, which I think is pretty damn good myself.

DDR orange bakelites are good range mags, but I see myself picking up more than a few of these things....

Just wanted to give you people a heads up.

I got mine already, $35.00 a pop from K-var http://www.ak47forums.com/frown.gif OUCH! But a few more cant hurt...only one word of caution, the Bulgarian Black smooth side 5.45x39 mags are NOT (IMHO) as durable and indistructable as a Bakelite, or metal mag for that matter so alot of you will want a few for show and display and the bulk in the $4.95 Brown Bakelites for as-mentioned before range and serious use. Don't get me wrong the Black ones are fine and work great, with the guns too new in the U.S. for torture testing of mags, only time will tell.

Why cant you paint the DDR mags with bumper paint or something like that for the black look?

You can, try to use something like a Gel Coat that sticks well to polymers or fiberglass and it will do well. Though the paint will wear off the feedlips and around where the mag sits in the mag well eventually. Why more people dont do this I dont know as cheap as the mags are right now I would think lots would pop up already pre painted. I guess people dont want to destroy any potential future collectors value to their mags, however given the numbers being imported I imagine it will be a long long long time before you see any massive increase in value. Good luck!
