Hi folks, posted this on "the other board" in a thread. I fingered that some may have missed it so...
With all the talk of modifying a SLR 101 to accept hi-cap mags I wanted to let you know what you were up against. Pay attention to the bolt.

I'm not saying such a thing can be done. I just have to wonder if it is economically sound to pursue such a venture. I would think it would be cheaper just to buy a receiver & have a rifle built. Your thoughts...
PS, the rifles in the picture just had a dose of CLP sprayed on them which reflected the flash & gave them a mottled appearance.

You know I never looked at one that closely, I love my SLR95 but modifying an SLR 101 to take hi caps hasnt had much intrest since you can probably have an almost complete barreled reciever for less. Just add bulgarian fire control, US laminate or walnut stock set, US gas piston and one other part and you are rocking. A hi cap milled AK with a pistol grip for less than $500. You cant beat it right now. Keep the pics coming I am going to upload some myself here soon. Best of luck.

Maybe not in price Jimbob but you can in quality.

The barrelled recievers(even as mike@MSC stated) are USED KITS on NEW RECIEVERS. He has also stated that the barrel erosion is pretty high.

So you figure rifle around $300, US fire control parts $25, Followers and floor plates $8(I think thats what I paid) and then add a gunsmith to make it happen. Also looks like you may need a bolt but you can get them.

I am thinking about getting one and having informer convert it for me. He is converting a romanian 991 for me.

Great point ED4, there used to be bulgarian barreled recievers but I havent seen them in a few months, they were only about $20 bucks more than Classics parts guns. Personally I believe to acclaimed SLRs peformance to be mainly due to the quality of the barrel more than the reciever. Best of luck!!!!!!

Jimbob it maybe from the barrels. But I do like my SLR-95 and am thinking hard about getting 2 SLR-101's and having one converted and keeping other original.
