Allright...who here has 'em?
I have a Yugo Zastava M90 in 7.62x51mm. I've recently modified 3 Galil .308 mags to fit, and man this thing runs like you wouldn't believe. I am able to consistently hit the 200 yard gong we have at my range, IF I do my part from a kneeling position, and more than occasionally from the off hand position.

Here! M90 7.62x39
------------------
Don't have one myself (yet! http://www.ak47forums.com/wink.gif )
We used to have a Model 62 in the family when I was a kid. Belonged to an Uncle. He traded it off MANY years ago. He wasn't a fan of "evil Black rifles". Wish he hadn't done that!!!
I was too young to even shoot it back then, but I remember holding it and pretending http://www.ak47forums.com/smile.gif

BTW, which model is the cheapest, easiest to find, and relatively good supply of mags?
I'm looking for the "Best Buy" in Valmets...
Anyone?

DK,
The Valmets are Finnish, not Yugoslavian, but be that as it may, they are among the finest AK variants out there. I've owned 4 total, a M62, two M76's in 5.56, and a M76F in 7.62x39mm w/folding stock.
The least expensive are the 5.56mm M76's, and they are fairly plentiful, especially with the wood stocks. expect to pay around $1000.00 to $1200.00 for one, depending on condition. The only downside to them is that there aren't all that many 5.56mm Valmet mags running around. I've heard that Galil mags will interchange, but I can't confirm this.
If you can, try to find a Valmet in 7.62x39mm, as they will take any country's standard AK magazine, and are more rare than the 5.56mm rifles.
The milled receiver M62 is very expensive nowadays, but the M76 with it's stamped receivers are a little more common and less expensive.
Hope that helps.
Now, are you also going to buy a Yugo to complement the Valmet???
http://www.ak47forums.com/biggrin.gif
------------------
Boy, talk about a brain fart!!!
For some reason I was reading Yugo, and thinking Valmet! What's up w/ that!!!!
Anyway, thanks Templar, I'll search for a 7.62x39 for mag availability. That's the type my Uncle had, w/ a wood stock.
Of course I'll have to add a Yugo to the collection just for being stupid! (I like my pennance!! http://www.ak47forums.com/smile.gif )

I got my FIRST Yugo last week. I really like the thing. Hopefully I'll be able to take it out and shoot it this coming weekend and I hope it shoots as well as it looks. It's a NIB M90 7.62x39.
I'm having a hard time getting anyone to part with a M70 at a price I'm willing to pay.
Well, all things come to those that wait, so we'll see.
For the Valmets the M71 models seem to be the least expensive, then the M76 versions, all in 223. The 7.62x39 are much harder to find and much more desirable.
What I REALLY want is a M78 in 7.62x39. That's the RPK version of the Valmet.
Regards,
Mike

Valmet 76,
Any luck in finding a stock kit for your Yugo? I have a pistol grip (original teak), with a slight scar in the front where it looks like a guy was wearing a ring and shooting the rifle. It's not deep, and I was thinking of sanding the grip down to fit my hand a little better, but I've got another one that I'm using.
I might be willing to give up the slightly scarred one if you're interested.

I've owned a .308 since '96. Also have one of the few PSO-1 units made for the .308 Yugo in Russia. I love this rifle;I've put five rounds of Portugese FNM military ball into 4.25" at 200yds with the iron sights and three shots into 1/2" at 102yds with the 4x PSO-1.

Ranger SXT, do you have any idea how many of the American Arms Yugo's were imported? I can't imagine very many.

Templar: My American Arms Import is a 100 series number while my Mitchell is a 700 series number. I think the last I heard about 400-500 of these American Arms models were imported...not sure though I will have to go back and check my records. http://www.ak47forums.com/tongue.gif

yes i'll check in here also, had all of yugo models from mitchell great guns, the rarest pair i had was a pair of original model sks full military only two imported, see the pics in the s.o.f. magazine years ago when they were first imported by interarms, they allowed two in then that was it,sold them bad boys for $3,000.00 now i wish just for the nostalgia of it all i had them back.for that matter at todays prices i wish i had them all back.the best sks made by far,and i have gone thru east german, chinese, russian, nva, and won't bother with the romanian i've seen them,it would be nice to have another yugo folder but last time i checked they wanted $5,000 plus for a pre-86 sample gun,so back to the drawing board, have fun with your yugo's guys, won't be anymore of those in our future.take care, krinkov

I forgot to mention that I'm a proud YUGO owner too. All mine are in .308 NATO. Standard and RPK. The .308 RPK is definitely big! If an AK has a carry handle its a BIG AK. Joe out.

I have a Mitchell Arms Zastava full stock 7.62x39 with a trigger job.
Got the Yugo scope from Mitchell Arms, but the scope is actually for the .308 I believe.
The radioactive unit has given out and no longer lights up in the dark.
My question: The Mitchell Arms owner's manual says my rifle is a model M70B1. My receiver is stamped "Model RPK-47".
Definitely not a RPK. Are all M70 receivers marked "RPK"?

Thanks for resurecting this thread Shpagin :D , it was one of my first here I think.
As far as the markings on the mitchell Yugo AK's...they vary.
I've seen the semi-auto M-70's marked as both AK and RPK. They apparently were using any receiver they could. the Yugoslav RPK and AK receivers are identicle.
As far as your sights go..I heard, but haven't confirmed, that Tapco has some that still glow. www.tapco.com (http://www.tapco.com)
Good luck and welcome to the board.

Does anyone have a description of the Galil .308 magazine mod for the Yugo? I remember seeing one on the ol' ak47.net but that pic is now in the ether...
Thanks in advance.

I have a Zastava M59 (SKS). It was made in Belgrade and has a spigot-type gerande launcher permanently attached to the muzzle. It also has a folding grenade-launching sight which is normally folded flat behind the front sight. Here is a pic.

Just a heads up the Russians never made a PSO for the Yugo 308 or any other Yugo for that matter. That was just a bunch of crap from KVAR to sell PSO's that were cut here in the states to slide on the rail. Not a bad alternative, but there is no comparison between an original Yugo scope and the Russian manufacture PSO. The Yugo Scope is the finest of the Combloc Military scopes made they put all the others to shame. Besides they are cammed correctly and turn the Yugo into a tack driver. They come cammed in 7.62 x 39, 7.62 x 51, 7.62 x 54r and 8mm Mauser....there is a huge difference. Anyhow the Yugos are the best of the bunch. You guys are the best!!!!!! Its good to be here...AKEXPERT/AKE
