Can you easily add a slant brake to the SAR-1? I know the Maadi barrels have been de-threaded so the barrel is now to skinny to thread again. Is this the same case with the Romanian? Or can you recommend a brake pinned or welded. How bout the AK-74 one used on the Bushy's?

from what I have been told you can get a guide and die from Brownell's and do it yourself for not much trouble. The romanians are supposed to have enough meat to thread
thinking about it myself.

No problem with the bbl diameter at the muzzle on a SAR. They were never turned at the factory. Plenty of meat. Thread the sucker and hi-temp (1100f) solder it on and your good to go. cya

My gun smith got the guide and die from Brownell's and it worked great on the guns he has done.

The SAR-1 muzzle mics right at .712" which like has already been said will take threading. I threat on a lathe, which is more precise then a "t" bar and die. If you take your time, it should be sufficient and end with good result. http://www.ak47forums.com/smile.gif BTW, as I was told in smithing school, ... "use silver solder, .. welds are ugly and unprofessional looking." Good luck.

Is there really a noticeable difference with the slant break or do people just install them for looks? I have a break on my 30.06 hunting rifle and it kicks butt but I never tried on on a low recoiling gun like the SAR-1. Has anybody else tried the slant and does it work?

I have tried them, can not tell the differance.

I have noticed a difference.
If you take a SAR1 w/o the brake, it kinda rolls up as you shoot it.
The SAR1 with the slant brake on it pushes back more than rolls. Which actually increases felt recoil, but muzzle stays lower.
We tried this not too long ago with identical rifles. If you can, try it yourself and see what you think. cya

Thanks for the info, I think that I will leave my rifle stock-I think it is great just the way that it is.
