I'm a first time buyer of an AK 47, I'm not sure of the company, all it says is New Romanian AK 47, it's in .223 caliber, synthetic stock, for $310. Is this a good gun and is the price reasonable? Thanks

Stay clear of the 223 go with the 7.62x39 or 5.45x39. The ammo is cheaper and the guns work better.

I agree with TeamAFX to a point. Your first AK should always be the classic 7.62*39, cheap mags, cheap ammo as available as .223 if not more. There are many new and used choices that are excellent on the market. Then after you have the 7.62*39 radiate out to 5.45*39 and .223. If you want a .223 AK and are new to the guns and dont really want to be working out minor problems look for a pre or postban Norinco 84s. The Romanian guns have had some fairly serious problems (misfires, jams, finiky about ammo), not any that cant be worked out with a little patience but still not a good introductory AK. Good luck!

I agree with teamafx & jimbob, stay away from the SAR-3 in .223, you're better off with the 7.62 SAR-1 or 5.45 SAR-2. I'd say go with the classic 7.62 as your first AK unless you really want the lighter weight/recoil & flatter trajectory of the 5.45 in your first AK.

Ditto - the SAR 3 is generally not suited to someone that requires a reliable AK out of the box - it's more of a kit gun for AK tinkerers. I have one & it works perfectly - AFTER I messed with it http://www.ak47forums.com/smile.gif But I have a load of 7.62x39's. Get one of these first.

I agree with the rest. I currently own an SAR3 and am very happy with it but I think the starting block should be the 7.62 and work from there. I really dont understand the thing with the SAR3, it was just a short time ago we couldnt get anything but a kit gun in any caliber reasonably priced. I worked out all the bugs in the 3 but I dont mind sitting in the shop with a sharp file and a dremel. If you're wanting something to shoot right out of the box get the SAR1.
