I've seen a POF 18" barrel, flattop with rail forearms for sale here in the Tulsa,OK area. For about $1900.00. Christ on a crutch. Does it have to be that high ? That's over twice the amount I think is right. Where are the HK 416's and FN SCAR's ? Is it big tease by the manufacturers ? I would'nt mind as much if I knew our troops over in the sand box where all getting the first models of gas piston, uber reliable, low maintenance weapons BUT, I don't think the Pentagon and DOD are procuring them yet. As far as I know by 8-15-08. At this late date, are our troops stuck with gas impingement actions forever? How about gas piston upgrades for our old impingement models? I've tried e-mailing ARES DEFENSE, INC. about it and got no reply. To busy? Filling military orders, I hope. I've been cleaning my bolt carriers and all the other smoky, carboned up AR parts for about twelve years now. After getting an Arsenal SA M-7 AK-47 type carbine and experiencing the simpler maintenance required with it, I'm enthused with gas piston actions.

They're not considered "sporting", so the HK416 and FN SCAR cannot be imported (although they could do so as parts kits, without barrels, which neither FN or HK are probably going to do).
HK doesn't make guns in the USA, the 416's out.
FN doesn't produce military-style rifles here in the USA, as part of a non-compete agreement with Colt when they won the US Army M16 contract. That agreement runs out along with Colt's exclusive M4 contract and FN's M16 contract, so it's possible FN might start making SCARs in the US sometime in the future.
Until one or the other of those companies starts making them here in the US, or decides it'd be worthwhile to ship parts kits without barrels, or contracts with a US supplier to produce them (like Bushmaster with the Masada(?)), you're stuck with what the small-volume custom makers produce, and they're quite costly, as you've seen.

Try SIG 556, Robarms XRC, M96. and I believe Bushy has a gas piston AR. I believe we will see more gas piston AR's in the future. I dont know about any going to our guys on the frontline.
