A beautiful sight, indeed.

Here is a close up. Note the selector positions. Top being safe, then full auto, then semi, then all the way at the bottom is burst. This explains the odd shape of the selector stop.

Sweet! Looks like they actually finished that one too! Hmmm is the semi gloss black paint on all the Romanian stuff? Some of the parts sets I have seen do not have it.
Just curious

It would appear that you answered your own question. The Romanian pictured above has a bake on (painted) finish while you have seen parts that lack this feature.

How hard would it be to pin open that type of stock? Do any of you have one on your gun?

I have a Romanian folding stock kit like that one on my pre-ban Chinese AK. It makes the rifle very compact, but it isn't the most comfortable thing in the world to shoot.

I do not think it would be very hard to fix the stock open. I can hear some gears turning. hehehehehe

The Romanian SAR rifles are a parkerized color, the ONLY folding stocks I have seen are a painted black. Where do you find a stock with the finish to match your SAR? Oh Yea, NICE PIC THANK YOU!!!

I bought a East German folding stock from AA-OKAY last year. It had had a grey finish similar to a SAR.

The one I have is definitely Romanian, got it from K-Var a few years ago. It is the same matte finish as on the SAR rifles. You'll see a pic of it when I post my Chinese AK for sale...i know, don't want to, but I have to do it.

It's a pre-ban, so you can do anything you want with it.

Thanks to Ekie I put the front pointing grip on my SAR-2 and I love it! The pic you posted was all I needed to kick me in the ass to get one. Thanks Ekie.

Well it now looks like the SAR-2 I am getting on friday will soon look like the one in the pic. I am going to put a PINED folding stock on it to make it look like that one.

Thanks Whirblewind, I have found the one pictured first an E. German parkerized folder, some guy in Detroit sells them assembled for $36. Fit a SAR-2, can be welded easily in the open position.

I put an East german folder on my sar-2. Got it from Northridge for 40.00. I drilled a hole under the top tang and pinned it in the open position.

Thanks Ekie, I didn't know they invariably had the folding stocks. K-Var sells a fully laminate Romanian stock set with the forward pistol grip, so maybe those were for their AKM clones prior to the AK-74?

Now that the date is fixed, I'll bump this to the top.

OK, I jumped the gun a bit and ordered the fully laminated Romanian stock with lower foeregrip from K-Var last week and it arrived today. I have a slight bit more fitting to do, but God, it looks absolutely beautiful! Nothing at all like the crap that came on my SAR 2. I also ordered the threaded Romanian front sight from them and will add the US made compensator as soon as Global gets them (this week I hope), so I used the orangish plastic Romanian grip, too.

Geez, I am proud of that gun, now!

That's what Jimmy told me on the phone last week. He expects the American made comps to be in stock at Global this week and to go for $34.

I wonder if Informer is making them?

Here is the information Whirblewind wanted. See his pic of the $80 Parkerized E.German side folder. Try American Munitions of Royal Oak (Detroit area) Michigan call "BOB" 1-(248) 543-1324. He sold me an assembled one fit my SAR-2 and matched the parkerizing perfectly. PEMANENTLY have it welded open per ATF 922 (r) to stay out of the IRON BAR HOTEL if you put it on a post ban stamped reciever. I never got the 6mm screw that screws it into the rear trunion, had to buy it at a hardware store and dremel it to fit cost 7 cents, so ask him to send you the corect screw if you order on. Only $36 bucks but I picked it up from his house, so no shipping was needed, he has a parts sheet of about any E. german AK part, he'll fax to you. Hope this helps.Teamafx..Steve you should be able to get one fairly easy..hang on to your 10 shot romanian double stack 5.45 mag for me, soon as I get $10 bucks I'll get it.

Thanks Steel Core. I called him this afternoon and he still has some. They're now $41 each. I ordered 2 for $82 plus $6 shipping.

The cool thing about the Romanian folders is that they bolt on to the standard rear trunion. You can swap back and forth with your original stock. Here's my old SAR-1  http://wsphotofews.excite.com/034/2j/Ke/zv/WX72833.jpg

Bulletslap Informer I think is shipping the Brakes now since I got mine on Tuesday.

I didnt think teh Romian AK-74 was like that. I thought the 74 had plastic grips and a covered gas tube too. Informer is building me one that looks different than that using my preban Maddi.

It is about the Romanian AKS-74. He tested one back in 93 in South Africa. He seemed to really like it.

OK, thanks alot guys, I think I'll order the Romanian folding stock soon. Especially after what Stahlhelm said about the trunion not requiring a change.

Now, the question is.................is the resulting product a Ekie-clone, or a Stahlhelm clone? :D
