View Full Version : Romak III Q's
A few years back I sold my Dragunov Tigr
but kept all the accs. and spare mags.
been wanting to replace the rifle, but the
accuracy reports I've seen for the Romak are
every bit as good as what I was getting out of the Tigr,so on a cost = accuracy basis
I'll go with the Romak. Can some one tell me if the Romak rec. is milled, and would the
Dragunov mags, firing pin,and scope parts fit
in the Romak? Thanks for any info.mk
Just because your paranoid dose'nt mean thier not out to get you.

The Romak III is an import version (export if you are Romanian) of the Romanian FPK. The FPK is essentially a modified AKM. The AKM and the FPK are sheet metal construction. Off the top of my head; the only parts or assembles interchangeable between the SVD and the FPK would be the scope and ammunition. The SVD is a unique design only loosely based on the Kalashnikov, while the FPK is a rather simple modification to the AKM.

Yeah, what Ekie said. Unfortunately there really isn't any interchangeable parts between the ROMAK3 and the SVD Draguanov, not even the mags. The mags are close, but not close enough. The ROMAK3's mags are atleast half as expensive as the Dragunov ones are though, sometimes more than half if you're lucky. A few months ago InterOrdnance had the mags for about $25.
Overall the ROMAK3 is a fantastic rifle. I have never shot a real Dragunov so I can't give a relative comparison betweent the two, but for a little more than half the price of an SVD you get a superb weapon that has suprisingly very good accuracy. I say suprisingly, because like some people have said about the ROMAK3, it is just an AK on steroids....basically.

damn nice looking rifle, did the wood come as
shown,or did you refinish it? Guess I'll
keep the SVD stuff around for trade bait.
Thanks again.mk

Polyak:
Did you refinish that wood, or is it original? Very nice.

Thanks guys, yes I did refinish the wood on mine. The rifle comes with a Yellowish/Orangeish color, which looks good also, but I decided I wanted to sand a little on the grip to make it a little slimmer for comfort. After doing this I went ahead and decided to darken up the color while I was at it and have a QD swivel stud mounted to the front of the handguard for the Harris bipod. I also removed the trigger group and polished up the mating surfaces, that substantially improved the trigger pull and feel.
These guns are really a lot of fun to shoot and play with http://www.ak47forums.com/smile.gif

You are correct Ekie.
There are alot of differences between the romak3 and the SVD's. The SVD is milled the romak3 is stamped. The SVD has a gas system like the SKS not like the AK or romak3. In that the piston is not attached to the bolt carrier like the romak3/AK.
They both hold the bolt open on last shot thats similar. Or atleast the chinese Dragunov does and romak3 do I am not sure about the russian made Dragunovs.

That is a fine FOM 1005-12-2-7.62-5. I looked up that number so I thought I should use it at least twice. Hehehehehe. Seriously though I remember you posting pictures of it on the other board. You even got a compliment from Tantal.
