Finally had a day below 90 degrees so I hit the range for a rain shortened session with the .308 VEPR "Carbine" (20.5" barrel).
Shot three sighting shots at 25yds. and got it shooting dead center. I then proceded to shoot four very lackluster groups at 100yds. ranging between 4-1/4" and 6-3/4" before realizing that I was the problem and not the rifle. Not having been shooting in over a month,I was flinching and not following through. Sure enough, remembering to do everything right,my very next group was a more respectable 2.63" (2-5/8") at 100yds. using Portugese FNM 147gr. FMJ military ball, iron sights from the bench with rests. It was still shooting low at 100yds. because my Tapco sight adjustment tool broke before I could dial it in.
The thunder and lightning then began, and not wanting to be holding a Russian lightning rod at this time,I packed it up for the day.
Overall impressions: with the Buffer Technologies buffer installed, recoil was about the same or less than my .308 Yugo with buffer and gas setting on "2". Trigger is very different than the Yugo, however, with very little take-up and no creep at all. T-hole stock worked very well; I hardly noticed that it wasn't a true pistol grip.
Further and more complete range report to come.
