I posted this on another AK forum, but it had some problems right after I posted, so I thought I would repost here.

I have been emailing the guys at K-USA for awhile now about Dragonov style Choate stocks for a Saiga-12 shotgun. They finally wrote back.

Here is what they said:

"We've made the model for the mould. Now it needs the mould to be made from it.
They're expensive, but we should do it.
I'll pressure the boss again."

It sounds like they are about ready to start production but anybody that's got or wants a Saiga needs to email them and light a fire under their wagon. I want one of these for my Saiga-12 for certain.

I've never actually played around with one of the Saiga shotguns. I actually prefer a standard stock for a shotgun over a pistol grip one, but I'd like to know how they function with a shorter barrel. If I purchased one, it would have to get the barrel cut down to 18 1/2" and then have some kind of choke tube system in place.

The reason I prefer a standard stock is the quickness into action from a slung position.

That doesn't mean that if it were legal, I wouldn't have the standard military stock set in a heartbeat though.

After shooting shooting a few hundred skeet with my Saiga-12, I would have to respectfully disagree on the stock issue. While what you say of most shotguns may be true, the Saiga really feels like it was designed for a pistol grip (which of course it was). I just don't think that it feels right without one, but that's just my take on it. Of course a Drag stock is no substitute for a military pistol grip, but its the closest thing we can get (legally). So I'll buy one.

The thing I really like about the Saiga is that it is so light weight and it has almost no kick. Its a fun shotgun to shoot. But the pattern is incredibly tight (at least with the full sized barrel). Its a hell of job trying to shoot skeet with it. My buds shorty Browning over under is about 4 times better for skeet shooting (great pattern) but then you could buy 10 Saiga's for the same price. http://www.ak47forums.com/smile.gif

To be honest, the pattern is so tight that I doubt you'd even need a choke tube, even after cutting down the barrel. Right now using 7 gameshot I get a pattern about the size of a tea cup. http://www.ak47forums.com/frown.gif

Like I said, I haven't had the chance to play with one, yet. Sure wouldn't mind though. My point was mainly talking about bringing the shotgun up to presentation from a slung position on the opposite shoulder from your shooting shoulder.

Still would love to have a military configuration though.

I see your point now, and its valid. But I'd still like the Drag stock. I mainly bought mine for shooting skeet (a poor man's skeet gun), so I don't worry much about the strap.

As to the Saiga itself, you should pick one up. They do have some problems which keeps them from being top notch, but they are light weight and a lot fun to shoot. And they are cheap compared to other autoloaders.
Its worth it just for the looks I get at the skeet range.

Is it legal for them to put a Drag stock on a SAIGA-12? If so I think I will just do it myself.
The conversion to a pistolgrip type stock should be easy.

I guess so. I never heard it was illegal anyway http://www.ak47forums.com/smile.gif. K-USA made a mold, so it I'd guess it was alright.

If you make one, post a pic of it on the forum. I would like to see it.

I didnt think you could have a pistolgrip (or drag stock) on a semi-auto, mag fed, post ban shotgun. I will find out in the next few days. This could be the next project I am looking for.

It is legal to install a Dragunov-style buttstock on the Saiga-12. It's the same as putting one - a Choate or Fiberforce - on an AK (I had one on my MAK90). These are considered thumbhole types rather than pistol-grip.
I first heard about the Saiga-12 stock last year from K USA's G.M. Pete Thomson. Recent correspondence implies that we may not see these anytime soon, which is a disappointment (I guess it's not considered a priority budget-wise). However, I would still urge all those interested to keep hounding these folks; if enough of us do maybe they'll fast-track the project.
I've looked at the feasibility of adapting a Choate or Fiberforce stock to mine, but I have my doubts. The main problem is the difference in trigger/guard location between the shotgun and the AK rifle. Still, anything is possible. If anyone comes up with a workable solution be sure an dlet us know - I'm getting tired of waiting for the "promised" factory version! :)
