Well I just got one of these in for my mid-length gas system rifle. It's a work in progress for about 8 months now. As money permits I ad a piece to get it to where I eventually want it to be for capability.
So the most recent piece is the DD Omega rail system. It's a true free float railed handguard system. I picked it because it does not require a special barrel nut or custom spanner wrench like many such railed handguard systems require.
I was thinking of the DD Lite Rail handguards until I learned you need to spend money to buy a special wrench to tighten the proprietary barrel nut that comes with the Lite Rail systems. Then I took note of the DD Omega rails and read the description. It sounded like it was just the handguard set I was looking for and what's even better is it works with the Kurk's Kustom Firearms M9EvoM4 gas piston conversions.
The M9evoM4 is what I'm going to have installed on the mid-length upper. I'd show you all a photo of the upper but it's already boxed up and ready to ship out to Kirk's Kustom.
In 6+ weeks when the completed upper comes back I'll update you all with a new thread and lots of photos of the completed rifle with the DD Omega and the M9EvoM4 system added.
I obtained my Omega Rail handguard set from Brownell's as they extend a discount to C&R license holders and had the Omega in stock for immediate shipment.

A friend of mine is currently thinking about this same rail . Is this the one with those giant holes , looks really rad ! We were looking for one at the gun show recently , but with no luck ! I'll ask him to read your post . I've told him he should become a gunsnet member . :cupjoe:

It's this one. It has some set screws that draw it up tight on the original barrel nut. You leave the delta ring and all that in place, no mods except to take off the handguard end cap behind the front sight gas block, the triangle shaped one or come to think of it, could be round also.
It gives a continous top rail line, just what I was after. That way I can shove my eotech further forward if I get a magnifier sometime in the future. The ability to move the eotech forward and provide an uninterupted top rail will also make it easier for me to reach the buttons with the BUIS behind the Eotech. Right now they're close and I can reach the buttons but not so easily.
Monday the upper goes to Kurt's Kustom for installation of the M9EvoM4 gas system as he calls it. Then it's sit back and wait the 6 to 8 weeks for the upper to return.

Delton upper modified with the 9" Daniel Defense Omega rail, I like it.

The omega rail gives an uninterupted top rail line so that optics like this Eotech can be mounted right over the point where many rail systems don't cover.

That rifle has come a long way! It looks great! Are you gonna put a vertical grip on it? What about fancy lights?

DD makes some really nice stuff, and that omega is awesome!
The fact you can FF your AR without any real mods is a great idea...
I just put a 12inch M4 DD on my 16 inch carbine last night, and Ive been using MI stuff for years, this is a major difference in quality, no doubt about it.
Looking good S-man!

Yep it sure has, it's last incarnation before the Omega and something I forgot to mention in my first post about it, it is now a Gas Piston upper you're looking at.

It's the Kurt's Kustom M9Evo piston system. You can see the piston body and oprod inside the Omega rail system. Haven't shot it yet and it'll probably be another week and a half before I get to.
Oh, nearly forgot to answer your question about the vertical grip. Yes I plan to put one on and I have a light to put on it but it's kind of big and 300 lumens of power. I'm having a hard time finding a light bracket big enough to hold it as it's an 1.062 inch in diameter at the smallest part. Got to get a flip up front sight as well. I though the M9Evo system came with a flip up front gas block but no, looks like I was wrong on that, just a pic rail gas block. I'll probably get a YHM front fipper to go with the back YHM sight. Last factoids about the rifle is that's a Stag Arms lower under the DTI upper. I have a Rock River lower but it fits the upper much looser so I went with the Stag Arms instead based on fit.
As an aside my plans for that Rock River lower is to build up a dedicated .22 LR upper to go on it. I've already got Black Dog mags on order and a CMMG manufactured .22 LR conversion unit in the vault. Next is to get the .22 LR barrel and a handguard for the project, I have a flat top receiver in the vault waiting to go on the barrel and RR Lower. That'll round out my AR collection at 4.

On the free float without major mods, yes it is a great idea. Very ingenious of them I think. Also these Omega rails are lighter than the DD Light Rail rail systems. I compared it to several on the market and they seem to be about the lightest FF rail system going for any length gas system.
On the 12" rail on a 16 inch barrel, is that what they call the Specter length? Goes around the front sight / gas block? Thanks for the "looking good" comment.

Hmmm not sure...
Ive heard em called recons as well, so probably..
Mine is actually a 14.5 with a vortex perm'd on with the 12.0 DD m4 rail. We actually kept the same gasblock and just shaved the FSB down so it looks all rounded and fits underneath the rail.
This was the look I was after on this one..

Ill tell ya, I have front grips from GGandG, tango down and some no names but I tried out the new bobro and that thing is awesome!
I got it from bravoCompany...
Ill get some pics tomorrow, she is on the rack drying...
I have a handfull of ARs, and the one that got the new rail was my main desert hiking gun so it got some krylon...
I love watching peoples faces when I take a rifle with a $300 rail, $300 optic, $100 mount and another $300 in buis, ( not even counting the cost of the rifle ) and spray paint it!
Thats a good lookin pic, think Im gonna use it as my desktop for a while! :ywoot Let us know how she shoots, Im thinking of going to a piston myself soon...

Thanks for the compliment. Next week after I get home from visiting the Grand kids I'm planning on taking it out and putting through it's paces.
