Howdy!
Recently I purchased a Kobra from Tantal (thanks bud!) for use on a SAR-1, and have some questions about it.
With the sight mounted on the rifle, the aiming dot appears to be very high and right (not centered) as viewed through the reticle. Adjusting the windage and elevation does not seem to move the dot at all. Did I get a bad one, or is this normal?
I have a C-More open-type red dot on my AR15, and am spoiled by its quality. Zeroing the C-More was easy, assuming your iron sights are on - adjust windage & elev. to place the red dot on top of your front sight post, as viewed through the iron sights. Shoot groups and tweak as needed. Zeroing the Kobra seems to be something else entirely, and I'm not quite sure what I'm doing. I have read the manual and the "translation" on Tantal's site, but still can't quite get my brain around it.
Any and all pointers are appreciated!

My only complaint about the Kobra is how difficult it can be to sight in. Windage and elevation don't seem to make much difference because the adjustments are very small. You'll probably need to adjust them past the stops in both windage and elevation. Windage is easy, just remove the off-center screw and adjust. Once on-target you can loosen (not remove) the wide center slotted screw with the pronged end of the Kobra sight tool, lift the wheel up off the adjustment mechanism and rotate to read '0'. Then tighten the slotted center screw, re-install and tighten the off-center screw. The elevation wheel doesn't have the off-center screw so to get past the rotation stops you have to loosen the wide center slotted screw enough that you can life the wheel up off the adjustment mechanism and rotate it opposite the way you want to turn it. Press down, rotate as needed and when sighted in lift the wheel up, rotate to read '0' and then tighten the center slotted screw. HTH, let me know if you have any other questions...

Check the instruction book - if you loosen those adjusting screws, you can re-rotate the dials, giving you a LOT of adjusting room. I have a feeling you could adjust this thing to zero even if your mounting rail was installed sideways http://www.ak47forums.com/smile.gif

Mine came the same way...high and to the right. It takes quite a few turns of the dials to get what you want, but now the dot is where it is supposed to be. If I can do it you can too. Keep trying.

Ned:
So I'm NOT crazy? http://www.ak47forums.com/smile.gif Thanks for the affirmation.
All:
I'm not giving up just yet. I'll fiddle with the sight some more and let you know my results after I get out and shoot the gun with it mounted.
Thanks for the pointers.

I never could get my cobra sighted in. Spun and spun the dials but it never seemed to move as much as I needed it to. Tantel was nice and returned it and gave me my money back so all I lost was shipping both ways and 200 rds of ammo the 2 times I tried to sight it in. I have an Aimpoint on my AR and it is much much nicer than the cobra. (more expensive too)

Visited the range on Saturday to get my newly acquired Kobra sighted (Thanks Tantal). Only took me about 30 minutes to get the sight zeroed at 100 yards. I found it was easier to do that I thought and once I had it dialed in I was easily putting shots into the head of a silhoutte. At 150 yards clay pigeons were quite a bit tougher to hit but probably had a lot to do with the less than spectacular consistency of the AK and its ammo.
This was done standing or sitting and without the benefit of a benchrest or sandbags.
