I just got a KOBRA sight from Tantal and I absolutly love it! I have a quick question, when I have the intensity at medium or higher I have a red "ghost ring" projected around the sight. Only the single dot doesnt project this ring (except on very high brightness), all the others (.<, <, _|_) project the ring and at higher intensities the red ring almost drowns out the sight picture. Is this normal? Any of you folks with KOBRAs know what Im talking about? Thanks,

Amy

Mine does that too, I wish it would not. We could ask Tantal about it I guess...

I have another issue with my Kobra I need to resolve. After taking it to the range and sighting it in it no longer locks securely to the rifle. I noticed it after about 30-60 rounds, it has about 1/2 inch of play in it. I have read the manual to try and decipher the correct way to fix this and this is the little gem that it has for an explanation:

If the sight is not fixed tightly on the gun's side bar:
-Shift the rest 5 together with the lever 4 to some gears towards the butt;
-replace the block 3 with its locking lug down and inserting it into the hole on the rest 5. Bring the rest 5 lug over the body 1 while pressing the rest 5 downwards.

Huh? If any one can explain this to me I would be very appreciative. Thanks,

Disregard previous plee for help. After much swearing, fiddling and thumb busting I figured it out...and wouldn't you know it, it is very simple once you know the procedure. Thanks,

Alas, this ghost ring is the limitation of the Kobra. I've found that setting the intensity on the least powerful setting, while still being able to see it dimly works the best. This way, the tgt in question is visible "through" the projection. Remeber, the further out in range you go the bigger the dot is relative to your tgt, so the transparent approach is most desirable. I mean if you compare a Trijicon at 350.00 plus to these, it is a great deal and it's Russian! Adds mystic to the weapon. i know my shooting buddies think my SLR-95 with my Kobra is just evil!

I have a PKA "red dot" Collimator. I cannot address issue regarding the Kobra, since I have never handled one. Yet, I can address the PKA.

The PKA has eight amplitude settings. Finite to bold. Finite is for dark environmental visuals, while bold is for bright environmental visuals.

As the amplitude settings are increased from finite to bold there is a "halo" effect inside the tube housing. At bold setting the halo is very pronounced in a dark environment, however, the effect does not occur in bright environment.

The light transmitted is focused by the amount of light and shape of transmit bulb/LED applied. Increasing the amplitude reveals imperfections in the parallax glass, compounded by the reflective qualities of the iodized color of the parallax. The correct handling and application of the PKA vs the environmental visuals will compensate for the halo effect. ONLY a laser will do better, and we know one does not look into the eyes of a Gorgon, and see well, thereafter.
