I have a SAR-1 coming to my FFL next week and I want to put a good telescopic sight on it.

Is the POSP 8x42 with the Red Illuminated reticule a fairly good quality scope for this rifle?
Info at: http://www.nightvisionweb.com/posp_8x42.htm

It is priced at $149.00 complete with built in side rail mount, retractable shade, rubber eyepeice and soft carrying case.

Would especially appreciate any comments from actual users of this particular scope.

BE CAREFUL... a 42 is likely to be just a tad too big of a Bell to fit on an AK. You may get stuck removing your rear site leaf to get it to fit. Most of these Russian scopes were designed to fit SVD's, not AK's.

I tend to stick to 3x9x32's - about the right size to allow you to use both a scope and the iron sights.

IMHO the AK isn't the world's best scope platform, instead the Kobra collimator sight would greatly increase your speed of target acquisition and engagement out to 200+ yds. If you must have a scope then check out the 4x PSO-1 calibrated for the 7.62x39 out to 400m. Be warned that it's difficult to get the proper eye relief when using a PSO/PSOP scope on an AK. Good luck and keep us posted...

Thanks for the replies fellas. After much reading on all the AK-47 forums and also much soul searching, I just now got through ordering a new Kobra sight system from tantal.

I really think it will serve my needs just fine. :)
