I was sighting in my kobra scope on my new sar 1 yesterday at a buddies farm. As I was adjusting the elevevation dial, before I even hit the point were you have to loosen the spanner nut and rezero the dial, in other words I still had play in the elevation knob, the f**cking tiny screw in the middle stripped. I can still turn the screw, but not easily.
Does anyone know the size of these screws? I would like to go get some stainless steel replacements. The crazy thing is I didn't put any more pressure on the elevation than the windage, and the windage is perfect. The only thing I can think of is the screw head was faulty/soft. Any suggestions, AK experts. I e-mailed the distributer in Texas and asked for the size of the screw or a replacement.

p.s. I love my sar 1. Me and 2 other buddies went to this farm, we had 23 rifles and 7 handguns. After about 4 hours of shooting various rifles, I went downrange a little and did a rapid fire with my 30 round clip, tree limbs were fallin from the woods behind our target stand.

p.p.s How far out can u guyz be accurate with the kobra? We had a table/awning at a 100 yards with a spotting scope, I really couldn't consistently stay on paper with the kobra, where as with my buddies 30.06, .308, .22, m-44 even my 9mm carbine with peep sights I was puttin 9 out of 10 rounds on paper.

Why were you trying to turn the center screw?

Cause I didn't know how to adjust the dials thanks to the "translated" directions. I also tried this page which didn't help as far as adjusting
http://home.earthlink.net/~royce_martin/Kobra.htm

Are you just supposed to loosen the "retaining nut", the one that the spanner wrench fits on, then turn the dial? Is it that easy and am I a jackass for messin up that screw? I wasn't sure how to adjust the dial, and in trying to follow the above website I used the spanner wrench and "felt" a clicking when I turned it, so I assummed that was the way to do it. I'm gonna go to the hardware store and try to find a replacement, but I'm bettin it will me a metric nut...

Don't feel too bad. I tried messin' with the center screw on my first date with the kobra also. Ya....just loosen the "retaining nut" enough to where you can pry-up the dial and turn it without the clicks.

Once I got mine zeroed-in, I haven't needed to make any adjustments after remounting the sight many times. It really holds it's zero well.

As to your earlier accuracy questions.....you should be able to get all your rounds into a 10 inch or smaller circle at 100 yards no problem once you have it zeroed good.

Good luck finding that metric screw....

I just got a reply from tanal:

"The center screw is not a screw it is a slotted shaft, and cannot be removed. It is only turned in order to move the reticle and not to be removed."

He told if I wanted to I could send him the scope and he would send me a replacement right away, but since I never have to mess with it again I don't really care if the screws are a little stripped.

Do ya think I should try tightening the center screw back down to restore the reticule back to it's original position?
