Diesel mechanics get paid pretty well, wouldn't be a bad deal for someone willing to relocate.
I took Diesel Mechanics in tech school, I'm a driver though.

Participating dealers are located across the northwest with services in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming.

If you live in these states, or near these states, and need a good paying job, it's worth it! You'll be working for the Caterpillar company or one of their service shops.

Sounds interesting. Too bad my wife goes back to school in few weeks and we can't be both in school at the same time.

My sister's father in law in diesel tech with couple of decades of equipment. He is worried about his job now. They lost a lot of business. Probably because I see a lot the earth moving equipment up for sale everywhere and not on job sites.

Volk, with the paid to train program this company is offering, it may not be a bad idea for your sister's father in law to look into the schooling. It'll keep him paid during the two years of training. Afterwards, with some luck, the economy will turn and there'll be jobs again, or he may be asked to teach.

I've seen starting pay from $18 an hour to starting pay at $24 an hour. I've seen middle scale from $20-$30 an hour.
