Got my M59/66 under the tree this morning!
She's much happier now, albeit there's no safety. Santa worked hard on the rifle yesterday.
He totally stripped the rifle, got all remaining cosmo out of it, cleaned all the parts.
He took the badly tarnished bolt carrier and spent three hours polishing it with steel wool and oil until it shined like it did when it was new.
He took wood putty and stained it the same color as the stock and filled in the two deep gouges, cut it in and smoothed it out. Looks pretty darned good, alot better than the gouges. They were about 3mm deep. One was about an inch long and half inch wide the other was about 1/4 in long and a cm wide.
He took steel wool to the bayo that was tarnished and it shines like a new one.
He ran some more patches down the bore and it's lookin' pretty good. Crisp rifling and an acceptable shine.
Good 'ol Santa, did alot of work on this SOG monstrosity and boy what a difference elbow grease makes!
He didn't have time to rub in some BLO so I'll have to do that later.
