An M48-A will accept bases for a large-ring M-98 Mauser - in other words, almost every scope base manufacturer in the world makes mounts for it. To go with the aesthetics of the gun, I'd stick with steel. Anyway, you can see a pretty wide selection at www.Brownells.com.

If you're a maniac for pseudo authenticity (interesting concept, that!), you can look around for genuine ($600-800) or replica ($200) Wermacht side-lever scope mounts for a 98.k. International Military Antiques has the former (along with a reproduction Afrika Corps scope case for a mere $300); I was able to find the latter at www.auctionarms.com.
