Well let's see if my first image post from the free site here on The Guns Network is going to show up.

It will be a pic of 3 bolt rifles. Top a Smith Corrona 03A3 with an Elmer Keith inspector stamp on the stock. Middle a P17 Eddystone and bottom a mint condition WWII 1903 Springfield type rifle with Rock Island Arsenal receiver.

Oh sheeeeeeat! You would have to aske me! ROFMALO! Well let's see if I can remeber all the stumbling around I did.

Have you gone into the Photos area to set up your free 5 mega bite web site yet? If not click the "Photos" button at the top of the page right next to "user cp".

Then just follow the instructions of setting up your new photo album. Oh, don't do what I did and use capital letters in your user name or the stupid thing won't work. Also write down your password! What a hassel I didn't get it up and running until this morning! But it works so I'm :D now!

Keep your photo resolution down or the pics will be 4 times the size of the monitor view on a PC. I used 800 X 600 pixel size for this posting and it seems about right. Also this makes the pictures upload a bunch faster. The bigger the image the slower the upload.

I moved the down sized digi cam images stored on a WRCDROM disc to the "My Photos" folder on my pooter! From there I selected one at a time by cliking the Browse button on the web site upload photo page here on TGN. This opens up a list of your folders on your PC. I then clicked on My Photos Then clicked on the image there to high light it / select it. Then hit the enter key on the keyboard and the info for this pic popped into the first photo copy slot on the album site. Then I clicked finished or something and the image appeared in the album.

From there you view the images and it will give you the http:// for that image. Right click on it and then copy it. Then start your post here and when you are ready to insert the photo, click the button up there on the panel that is the http:// button. In the window that appears right click the mouse and then click on paste and bam it appeared!

Well I hope this helps you out. I have done it exactly one time so I may have forgotten something.;) Good Luck!

Very nice. IIRC there was a thread over at Jouster about the CMP possibly getting some 1903/03A3's in 2002. That would be nice.

Is that the Elmer Keith of 44 magnum fame. I have one of his books and have read others and don't recall hearing of him being an inspector?

Yep sure is! He was an inspector at the Ogdon Utah Arsenal.

His stamp is OGEK no box around it.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to keep my eye out for that. I have a 1903 that I restored after being bubbarized, damn I hate it when people do that to good rifles! If you haven't read Keiths book Hell I Was There, pick up a copy it's a good read.

The damm blinking light of battery death has stopped me from making pictures of US bolt guns. New batteries for my camera tomorrow. Hate when that happens.

Just for info purposes, can anybody tell me if I have all the bolt guns used by us forces.

Krag-Jorgenson 30-40
Mosin-nagant M91 7.62x54R ( Used By the 31st infantry in Russia during WWI)
M1917 enfield 30-06
M1903 Springfield (all models) 30-06
Lee-navy stright pull 6mm Lee

I don't have them all, but If I wanted to start a collection, are these all that are needed, not to include the mordern Sniper rifles I want just genaral issue rifles.

I set up an account. Can't wait for the confirmation email. I sent it this afternoon and still no reply on how to complete setting up the account. Hmmm.

Nice rifles Scheutzenman. Looking forward to seeing the whole arsenal.

TheBigCa,
Thanks for the compliments on the rifles. The 1903 Rock Island arsenal (the front most rifle) is the Mintiest surplus rifle I own with the exception of an AG42B Swedish Jlungman (sp) rifle. It has a High Standard pistol company 4 groove barrel on it, probably the reason it's so accurate. The fit of wood to metal is very close, on par with most civilian bolt rifles one sees today.

I don't shoot it anymore despite the fact that it's also the most accurate "as purchased" rifle I've ever seen shoot. It can do better than MOA with ball ammo! This one belonged to a former GI that passed away in his 80's. It came to me because his son didn't want it. Thank God he didn't!

I was looking to get an 03A3 when this 03 came up as an opportunity. I wasn't that excited until I saw it. Wow, it literally still had the cosmoline in the screw slots and grooves of the bayonet lug. Down the buttstock cleaning kit hole too! I still havent' gotten all that out. LOL!

Initially it still didn't hit me that this was an Unfired rifle until after I fired the first magazine full. I look down at the follower, which is parkerized, and see brass drag marks on the finish. Then the light bulb came on mentally, "this is an unfired weapon and you just put the first rounds through it since proof firing during WWII"! Kinda  too!

The 03A3 in back is a Smith Corrona it has a High Standard 4 groove rifle barrel on it. Condition is Excellent but can't hold a candle to the 03 Rock Island Arsenal Springfield! Shoots pretty good about 1.5 to 2 inches with most surplus ammo.

The P17 is in VG overall condition. It is a Canadian import as it has little eagle head ordnance marks on the sotck. I can see the remnants of the red painted on stripe that the Canadians put on these. The purpose of painting a red band up by the nose cap was to tell at a glance that it was a .30-06 chambered Enfield. They had the P14's as well and those were .303 Brit as the usual SMLE No.1 Mk III and No. 4 Mk I's are. Bore is bright but sadly it's also worn quite a bit. The muzzle is tight, or I wouldn't have purchased it. Sadly the rifle shoots about 4 to 5 inch groups with ball ammo. I haven't had time to try any "hand loads" in it to see if it will group better. It also needs to have the front sight replaced. Evidently it got broken off and somebody put a roll pin in as a front sight post. It works but it's just not correct.
