in my opinion, HELL NO ! please correct me if i'm wrong.
1946 Izchech(would a mode fix the spelling and erase this note)
the bad
lots of blueing gone. lots of stock finish gone. front band was broke and had TONS of rust under/on it, the other band is not much better. the end caps on the handguard are rusted/pitted bad.
what does the follower look like ? i think mine is gone. it wouldn't even feed the last round, to low in mag.
the good
its a cool rifle. bayo layout. all matching. hammer & cycle:cool:
many triangle/arrow marks. the action is very smooth.
what do you think. should i send it back, what ?

the reason i bought a Excellent-Like new condition was to avoid the problems.

If its an AIM in wrap rifle I would send it back. All the ones I've seen including the two I own are much better looking than what you describe.
If you shoot it without that barrel band on there the wood is going to fly up and crack.
Way too much finish gone..
Actually, even if it isn't an AIM in wrap I'd send it back anyway as that is not an unissued /excellent rifle.

Where did you get it and how much did you pay? Please don't say the $69.95 ones from AIM cause I just ordered one on Sunday.

If it is an AIM in wrap I wouldn't worry guys. This looks to be an exception to the rule on these. Since they are wrapped up AIM would have no way of knowing how they look...

dude, you didn't post enough pic's .
yeah, mine is from aim $69. and i think they could have seen it wasn't new buy looking at the trigger guard. lots of bluing gone and lots of scratches. there are NO rearsenal squares anywhere on it.
2 rifles bought, 2 sent back. i'm batting 0000

yeah, i'm going to tomarrow. i think i will buy another one at that time, and have them credit my card when they get this one back. i would keep it if it were $30. but i'm sure they won't go for that seing as how they would have to see it first.

1. Have them send you another one and then credit the card for the one you dont want. They might just let you keep it though.

IMO if it was the mummy wrap grade (and I believe that's what I got out of the thread) and it looked like that I'd send it back too. Evedently Ivan was fucking off on the day he was supposed to be rearsenaling the weapons and just decided to wrap them up. After all the Commisar can't see through the paper! HeHeHe! ;)
I did get one once that the stock was not redone on it, but all the metal was 100%. Your's looks like hell, definitely send it back to AIM, they'll treat you right.

i just got off the phone with Erik there. he said sorry (of cource) and i just bought another one and i will send this one back today for a credit card credit. they offered me $30 off on this one, i said i'll give ya $20 for it, i didn't think he would go for it.
you know what is cool about this one is that its not rearsenaled.
and the bore is nice too.

I just got mine from AIM (in the wrap) about three weeks ago. The finish and blueing are in great shape. No rust that I saw and the bore looks great. The only thing about it is it has a lot of purple lines on the wood. It looks like the twine that wrapped the paper some how bleed through the finish and stained the wood. Guess I need to refinish this one.

About refinishing it, do you really want to strip off virgin finish from a Soviet Union rearsenal rebuild? That's going to destroy some of the "History" of the weapon. But you own it and of course you can do with it what you want to. I'm just trying to give you a friendly bump to the logic circuits. :D

I feel the same way. I don't want to refinish any C&R and I think I can get use to the purple rings. Anyway, at my pace (even if I would refinish it) it will never get done.
My SKS (oops can I say that word here?) is a little worn but I will never refinish it.

the way i see it there is not a lot of relivant history to these post war examples. and i want mine to look pretty much as it left the factory.
8dDUCE, thanx for all those pics. but would you mind removing some of them. this post is getting to be a drag waiting for them all to load. thanx
