I'm thinking of getting one from J&G Sales. Are they worth buying?
Thanks.

The D/A trigger sucks.
I'll put it like this.
My FFl has 3 of 'em
in the past 3-4 weeks he has sold at least a dozen Makarovs,
maybe more.
He's sold 0 Pa-63s:(

Thanks Secesh.
So the PA-63 is double action only?
Is a Bulgarian Makarov double/single?

The PA-63 is double/single. It is not a Makarov. It fires the 9x18 9mmMak round and is a closer copy of a Walther than that of a Mak. It tried to take the best features of both guns and pretty much failed.
I agree that the D/A trigger pull is bad. The only pistol that I can think is worse is my CZ-70. It's funny that they are both Walther PP clones. If you can score one for less than $100 it might be worth it if you are trying to collect as many of the 9x18 chambered pistols as you can. That's why I bought one. If you are debating between a PA-63 and a Makarov, there is no comparison. Get a Makarov.

CZ-70 triggers seem to vary, I have one that has an exellent trigger.
I've seen some that are bad, and some that are decent.
PA-63's also look cheesy, IMO
The Silver finished Aluminum frames have alot of milling marks.
Not up to the usually exellent Hungarian quality, IMO

I have both a pa-63 and Mak's while no doubt the
mak is better quality the pa-63 is also fun to
shoot, accurate and points very good, the double
action trigger is very stiff but can be changed
with new springs. The frame is alloy so recoil
is "stiff" with full power mak loads.
Feg made a later model smc918 better quality but
tough to find.
My feeling is for $100 you can't go wrong.!!!

Different strokes for different folks, I guess! I shoot my PA-63 more than my Mak. Only complaint is it holds one less round. Mine is well finished. Could care less about the DA trigger pull. Like the light wieght and am willing to pay price of more recoil. Mine eats HP without complaint, unlike my Mak. Best $ 83. I ever spent for a handgun!!
When I want more firepower, I get out a .45acp 1911 or EAA Witness in .45 or 10mm.
I have a rather valuable Walther that looks great but has always been a Jam-o-Matic. Go figure.
My definition of a good gun is that:
It works. Always.
I hit what I aim at with it.
It eats what I choose to feed it.
Beyond that are more minor things like appearance, comfort, price and quality. Every detail depends on the person doing the evaluating so buy what pleases YOU. The guy paying the bucks makes the determinations!!!!

I have a PA-63 and I love it. It shoots great although a bit stiff on the recoil. It works better than my US made PPK. I cant imagine a better value in a virtual clone of the Walther PP. I would grab one now while they are still available, like any other former Communist weapon. Once the East Block surplus guns are gone, they are GONE.
One weapon to stay away from though is the newly made pistol from Romarm (Romanian company that makes the SAR series), the Model 95 Carpati. Total pile of shit. Jams about 3-4 times per 7 round magazine, HORRIBLE double action pull that nearly requires 2 fingers to even pull and mangles the hell out of the web of your hand from the sharp frame spur edge. After running about 200 rounds (.380 is the caliber by the way) through mine and narrowing the hold open lever spur to improve feeding and doing a little magazine mod to make the follower move easier, I can some of the time get a full mag through with no malfunctions. I found if u shoot it one hand it works good mostly but if you use a stiff 2 hand hold it tends to malfunction alot. Go figure. The finish is terrible, lots of machine marks, thin blue and sharp edges. I got mine in trade for some old junk guns so I have no money in it but wouldnt pay 10 bucks for another. It too is a knock off of the Walther PP series.
I just picked up a Czech CZ-50 in .32 ACP. Havent shot it yet, but has a nice smooth trigger and is WELL made. Hope it functions good.

I like the pa63, but i'm the only one in my house that likes it, every one else thinks that the recoil bites into your hand too much. i don't think the trigger is that bad. i agree the 2 tone looks like crap, however we got one from SOG that had the extra mag and holster for $83 (before shiping and dealer mark up). also i think the makarov is one of the uglyest pistols ever made

I am looking at the PA-63 but I need to know if anyone makes flat grips for it. Those huge thumbrests that come on it have got to go. Would PP grips fit? If nothing else would work I guess I could just grind them down.

I just saw flat grips for PA-63 in SGN. I do not remember who, but at least they are now available.

Thanks Spitfire, I found it. It's in "The Dealer Warehouse" ad in Shotgun News.
MickeyMouse, NO CZ doesn't make "POS pistols"!
CZ RULES! :)

It does not look like the PP or the PPK/S grips would fit. If you look closely at it you will notice that the grip of the PA63 is rounded and the Walther is straight. I bought mine for $89 plus an extra mag. It looks OK. I have yet to go to the range with it. I am still waiting for my 9x18 to come from Wideners. I am interested in forming my own opinion about it. Like it or not it was not a great expense so I figure since it takes the same ammo as the Makarov. I'll take it along just for fun. If I wear it out. oh well.
I will let you guys know what happens.

Dang, you got a good deal Batman! Cheapest I see them wholesale is $79 if you buy two. Cheapest I've actually seen one in a gunshop around here is about $130. Congrats.
Yeah I don't guess PP grips would fit, but we can buy the origionals.
I will be waiting for your range report!

I am going to try to get to the gun range tomorrow. I will test out the PA63 and my new Bulgie Maks. I will post a range report at that time.

There are at least two guys in our office who use them for backups. They fit in an ankle holster a hell of a lot better than a Mak. Bernaul JHP works fine, but the Silver Bear stuff won't go in the mags. Too long.
The DA pull is kinda shitty, but you know what? When you are slugging rounds off trying to defend yourself, you'll never notice.
