Ok, tell me this box is wrong or something.... In addition to my UPS problems, I just noticed that this ammo box says
7.62 x 59
Do they call 7.62 X 54R that sometimes? Does the M44 and Mosin 91/30 shoot it too or did AIM send me the wrong stuff?!!!
Please say it ain't so!

I have never heard of 7.62x59 so I'm thinking what you got is a misprint...but until you figure out whats going on, I wouldn't shoot any either
kinda strange....is it on the box the ammo is in or just the shipping box?

GCowboy,
I haven't opened the metal box inside the wooden one so cannot answer that question. I tried AIM (busy) and will call them again to see what is going on. I guess I better not open it until I speak with them in case it's the wrong stuff. If they did send me the wrong stuff, I may pick a fight as I asked them to send me ammo for the M44. I know I can send it back but I'll eat the shipping both ways and I would venture to guess it's in the $20 - $30 range.

It is stamped on the wooden crate. The metal box inside, which fits SNUGLY into it, has not yet been opened. When i get home I'll try that.
Update too: I called AIM & asked, the gal put me on hold, came back, and said her supervisior said it was the right stuff. Woo hoo, I guess. Well, if this stuff kills me, ya'll have a good one. ;)

whos2,
Oh, and it does say 762 x 59 on top of metal box inside the wooden one. This metal box is welded shut. Again, the AIM supervisor said it was the right stuff.....

I don't think so.it's just labeled wrong.this can is Hungarian steel core stuff.it does not work that grate in my 91/30. but works grate in my m-44 though.my 91/30 it won't cycle it.

Thanks for help fellas.
My box is TOTALLY different - I'll photograph at home and post tonight. It is a big, wooden green box with markings on it. Inside, is a near-perfect square metal box, no rim, just saudered edges and handles to lift it out of wooden box, also with the markings on it that say 7.62 X 59.
I remember when I ordered it the girl insinuating that they didn't have their normal 7.62 X 54R - as if this is a 'rare' batch or something. It may have been more expensive than what they usually sell. I just wanted ammo for my rifles so I wasn't picky on the price. I did, of course, ask for ammo for the M44 and the Mosin 91/30.
How friggin bizzare!!!

The elusive 7.62 x 59 round should not be fired in any of your weapons, please send all of it to me. I will dispose of it properly. ;)
Never heard of that one, I can't wait to see the pic.

I'm not sure and most likely wrong but it seems I read somewhere that 7.62x59 was the metric designation for the 30-06! I can't remember and can't find any info on it now, maybe someone has a ready reference on metric cartridges that can cross it over. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

open box... now I'm gonna try and figure out how to open the metal box inside, it pulls straight out & is totally sealed.

whos2,
maybe you're right - looking at it after reading your last post makes it clear that it doesnt have "X" between the #s. Rather a dash "-".
Hmmmmm, sorry if I led you guys on a wild goosechase but as new C&R collector with bad luck and looking at that box, you can see why I might question it.

I would say it was made in 59 inspected in 7/63 and also in 2/64.if I'm wrong let me know but that's what I think.

Woo hoo!
I guess on the tabs but thanks for the recomendation. For the record, it was very difficult to pull these things off and I'm not a weak guy.
Attached is a photo of the bullets "in their natural state" heh heh.
on teh headstamp is:
63
6xn
A magnet jumped onto the bullet itself. The tips are silver in color, but it is a fine outer layer on the copper jacket. God this is fun. :)

Red,
It may have been that this was 'rare' ammo because it was crap stuff they don't like to sell. DOH! Again, I just wanted ammo for my rifles and this was the only stuff AIM had at the time.
Whos2,
Yes, I have an M44 and a 91/30. Both should have come with the ammo but there was a screw up with UPS. See UPS sucks post in general for my rant :)
In any case, hopefully one of the two rifles will like it. It is so cold here in Florida right now, I'm thinking that if I get my rifles from UPS tomorrow, I'll be "reinacting" WWII Russian battles at the range. :) Brrrr!

BTW.
when you say your rifles don't like them, in the case of a bolt action do you mean that they:
don't feed well
don't extract well
don't shoot at all
etc..
?
THanks

on mine it does not extract well at all. feed's grate but after you fire it, it won't extract.
not ive got different stuff then you have. mine is not silver tipped. mine is the regular stuff.

P.s
load your 91/30 and see if it extracts ok(all 5 rounds)
mine loves the Russian stuff for some reason

what you have there is what i believe is Czech silver tip. some say that it has a mild steel core. steel cased. its ability to cycle depends onthe rifle itself. some like it, some dont, just like the albanian stuff. which ammo was it on AIMs website???
whos2kno, are you trying to sell that hungarian stuff or something???

telson,
It defintely has metal that a magnet will cling to in the bullet as I did the magnet test....
EDIT: wasn't on their website. In fact, when I bought rifles I seem to recall asking about ammo for them and the girl said they didnt have any. When I asked "You don't have any ammo for the rifles?" is when she said well, we do have this blah blah.......

Got the invoice today with the rifles:
780rd (box says 700!?) Can Czech 7.62 X 54R
$79.95
shipping for the ammo, a M44 and a MN 91/30 was $37.00

It was a M44 I was shooting. It was hard to clear the round after firing. One of the 'ol slam the bolt upwards very hard with the palm of your hand situations. Nothing major though, the ammo is fine to shoot. I shot some brass case the same day through the same rifle and didn't have the problem at all. I believe this green stuff is laquer coated. I shot the same ammo through a M91/30 and had no problems with it. I think it all depends on the condition of your chamber really.

Homie, it definetly is Czech 7.62 X 54R. The magnet sticks to all 54R except Wolf and Sellier & Bellot soft point that's on the market because they all have copper plated steel jacketed bullets.
I think if you pull a bullet you'll find it has a lead core, not steel. The Czech's did have a 180 gr. steel cored bullet but it does not have the silver tip paint. That is a designator for light ball / 147 to 148 grain projectiles.

Standard Czech interpretation of the LVS loading. Very accurate. Now gone, should have bought more. :(
Be seeing you.
