It's here.

Missed FedEx but the wife picked her up on the way home. 1942 Springfield Armory. Stock is pretty dark walnut? All the wood matches as is but after cleaning I think the upper will be lighter in color. Three major gouges and one deep scratch. Lots of little dings and dents but no splits. I think I'll keep the wood as the grain looks like it will be quite nice when clean and the marks add character. Bottom of the butt is stamped with same serial number as the receiver. Bottom of the pistol grip has a round recess in it like something used to be there? Bottom of grip is marked with an upper case P in a circle and another without the circle below that one. on the side of the receiver the stock has an inked stamp with SA in a box with something else below the SA. Is this the original stock? I think so. Trap door buttplate. Empty of course:( Inside of barrel chanel has a partial paper sticker HMAK Kampviser (300) H: 28 or 2.8 Klik and below that S: +/- 6V Klik. Most of the rest is torn. Trigger group is WRA. Barrel is VAR 3-66. Bore looks beautiful:) All metal finish is a nice smooth patina with very good coverage. Exterior of the barrel is immaculate. I don't know yet how to tell if the operating rod is NM or whatever. No cosmo to speak of. Everything is oiled to the max though. Unit latches with some resistance. It's not loose anyway so the stock is not too compressed. Came with web sling and one en bloc clip. I'm very happy with this purchase. It feels good in my hands and points like my finger. As this is a Dane and not a SG will I be hurting anything if I sand and alittle on the stock after cleaning? I'd like to use my Purple Power technique and refinish with BLO. I doubt the ink marks will survive. Any questions or comments welcome. I'll get some pics up Monday night or Tuesday as my only digi cam is at work and I'm out of town tomorrow until Sunday night. Take care all.

Yep. $419 delivered. Nice packing too. Full size box with egg crate foam with the rifle sandwiched inside. CMP certificate, invoice and instruction booklet. Book even explains "M-1 Thumb". If this shoots like I hope it will I'd say that unless you really are into collector value, save the $100 extra for the Service Grade and go with the Dane. You may or may not get any better looking rifle and they may shoot just as god. I've read that these VAR barrels from Denmark are reasonably accurate.

Brief recap:

12/7 Mailed application
12/20 Charge hit CC
12/21 CMP closes until 1/2/02
1/2 Got serial # from CMP
1/3 Rifle shipped

I bet if it hadn't been for Xmas I'd have gotten it in two weeks. Still under a month with Xmas in the middle is OK.

First off congrats RS. Now to try and answer some of your questions. The Inked stamp with the SA in a box as you put it is actually a stamped cartouche that has probably been sanded a little at one time and then over the years filled in with stock finish and crude. I think you'll find it will survive your Purple Power thing but it might not survive a sanding. Try if you sand to stay away from that. It does add quite a bit of value to the stock. Without it you might have a $45 to $65 dollar stock set. With it you might have a $100+ dollar stock set. The SA in case you didn't guess meands Springfield Armory.

Var Barrels are quite accurate from all that I've talked to that have them.

The P in the Circle and the P not in a circle are Proof Firing marks. The sticker in the barrel channel of the stock, I don't know for sure but it may refer to some gauged dimesions of something, perhaps the oprod piston end. Oh and how to tell if you have a National Match Oprod. That's easy, it will be a Remington manufactured oprod and it will have a big NM stamped on the top of it back by the charging handle.

Hey, where's those Pics of this baby? ;)
