What is the correct (issue) sling for the Russian M-44? I found one at Tapso, http://www.tapco.com/product_information.asp?number=SLG5204&back=yes&dept=35&last=75 , but don't know if this is right or not.

well my M-44 has the dog collar sling, the dog collar being leather and the sling its self being some kind of stiched cloth...(its not leather though)
I have seen all leather slings from Tapco, and I do not belive these are the correct ones, but I may be wrong. I'm just going by my own personal experience. These look like the kinda found in your link (in addition it says it will fit all 91's...this may be too long for a m44)
hope this helps some...I would look at local shows to see if you can't scrounge up one

The sling does not look right to me. Give Tapco a call, they are very nice and helpful.
Here are my slings.

I'll give Tapco a call on Monday. They don't look like the dog collar type. Do you know where I can get them if Tapco doesn't have them?

Dear CWalker-One name-Rick Reich-He carries all sorts of parts, guns and slings-He also makes VERY nice repro dog collars.Rick is very knowledgeable, courteous and reasonable. He can sometimes be difficult to reach, but it is worth it!You can e-mail him at reichtrade@aol.com.If you cannot reach him by e-mail,e-mail me and I will give you his phone number.Rick is well known by Tuco and the rest of Mosin-Nagant.net.Cannot say enough good things about him!:)-Gearhead.

Dear fellow Members-Did I mention Rick Reich?I ordered what Tapco said were Mosin-Nagant slings and what I got were some nice Romanian SKS slings and some unidentifiable slings.Rick should still have a good selection of almost new to used slings. You can always wash them in Woolite-The canvas cleans up nicely. His repro dog collars are very nice also.Rick does NOT get enough press and is a great guy to deal with:)-Gearhead

All 3 rifle's were manufactured in 1948 and are unnissued. The rifle in the middle is the one with the bolt number stenciled on.Other than that every thing else is stamped and matched. All rifle's had wrapper on when i bought them. But no sling's.

AIC has the correct Russian slings on his rifles, a heavy canvas with dog collars attachements, the Tapco slings I've receiver have been Romanian SKS slings (what the picture is) and Romanian M44 slings (leather with dog collars). I have ordered the same thing and recieved the differant slings at differant times :)
Real Russian slings should be in the $30-40 range when you find them. There are also "wartime" burlap type Russian slings for sale at various places that would be correct and usually around $10-20.
