Got this rifle back in 1989 which I don't have anymore.:( Anyway I bought it form Sherwood Intl out of California. It had a decent bore new dark stock and short barrel! This is what is driving me nuts! To this day I have not seen anything like it anywhere! Strange! Was this you think a once in a life time thing because I have yet to see any short barrel 98's! I have looked in books and nothing! :(

do you remember if there was any import markings on it? to me it sounds like it was a modified rifle to me.I might be wrong but I don't think they made a short barrel rifle.
was there any Wehrmacht's markings on it?

I have Law's K98 Bible, and there is no mention of these Gewehr 98 variations in it at all. The only official Gew 98 variation was the Kar 98B, which maintained the 27" barrel, but inherited, the "S" front and rear sights (rear sight is the non rollercoaster type), and the bayo lug/side sling mount configuration of the later K98k which was used in WWII.

It may have been made for a foreign government like Persia. I doubt it was used by the Germans.

Is there any stampings on it that look like V's or upside down V's or backwards 3's?
