Well, I was in the local gunshop last night while returning from my weekend drill with the National Guard. I happened to spot a Makarov in the display case. I couldn't quite make out the origin from 6-feet away. SO, I asked the type and price. The girl said, "I think it's Romanian, the tag say's $189.00. After handing over my CCW permit, I asked to take a look at it. It sure wasn't Romanian. It had some holster wear on the muzzle and front side of the grip frame. I looked a little closer, turned out to be an EG. Serial number# on slide and frame matched (AT prefix..have no idea what this means). There was also an importer mark on the rear left side of the frame betweeen the grip and the edge of the slide; " Makarov 9x18 Germany H.M. SAC , CA" and the other side of the frame is dated 1961, the "AT" prefix #. Above the trigger housing on the left side of the frame is this symbol: "k100" in a box. From what I have read on this forum and the makarovinfo site. I think I got an "on par" deal.
When I was active duty in the FRG, I was never able to get my hands on one (Central Bavaria being too damned far for a day trip to Berlin).
And I find one right in my hometown. Gotta love it.
Now to buy a holster and a cleaning kit!
Geeze, yet another hobby gun to get me in trouble with the wife.
