Have a 1927 model COLT.
Bought a New GI barrel from CDNN to replace the relatively shot out one it has. Also bought a National Match bushing.

1. barrel was a little tight going into the slide by itself.
2.National match Bushing was IMPOSSIBLE to get on the barrel,I got so frustrated that I used a pair of pliers to get it on the barrel!
Needless to say the bushing is junk now.

Took it off as it was obviously not going to work.

Put my used bushing on it

3.after much cursing finally got it together, can't easily pull the slide back and when firing the slide would lock all the way back, took both thumbs or a slap to move it forward so it would chamber the next round.
4. IT IS A BITCH to put in or pull out the slide release lever and like I said It takes a rubber mallet to knock the slide back far enough to put the lever in or out!!!!

WTF IS GOING ON HERE??? Aren't .45 barrels and bushings interchangeable????

I know how to disassemble and assemble a .45 so the obvious like is the slide release all the way in is not the problem......
Please HELP if you can...
ARE ALL .45 parts interchangeable on COLT pistols???
Thanks

1. Im sure he can answer your question. To me the parts should be interchangable, but the newer models have changed.

2. Personal mail to Schuetzeman would be in order.

What type of bushing was your original? Solid or the type with fingers? Compare the link on your original barrel with the new. Are the grooves on the top of the chamber the same as the old barrel? I've got a Series 80 Government so maybe I can compare some things for you.

the national match bushings have to be fitted to each barrel. you need a drop in bushing if you don't want to fool with the fitting(it's a real pain)

the other problem is likely with the barrel link. it's probably a little too long on the new barrel. they come in several different sizes. it could also be the locking lugs or the lugs on the bottom of the barrel, or even the hood. try and work the slide back and forth without the slide stop in place, and see if it's any looser.

try wilson combat or brownell's for the different links and a drop in bushing

Thanks Guys, figured it out.Checking the dimensions of the barrel, they're slightly different. From the face of the chamber to the lugs on the bottom of the barrel the New Gi barrel was about 10 thousands shorter. So I ground the lugs down a bit, slides right now!!!

Thanks for that info on the National Match bushing too......So to "match it to the barrel" I could just use some sanding?

I think you're right about the link, the new one is just a tad longer.....Now that I ground the lugs down to match the old barrel, and it works fine, will it be allright to use the longer link??
Just a bit tough to get the slide release out for disassembly which I can live with for now....
Thanks again GURUS.:D
