Your AK mounts look impressive. I have some questions that I can't answer from what I've seen on your web site. I want to mount standard 1" diameter scopes on two AK-type rifles.

One for a Robinison Arms VEPR II in 7.62x39 and

One for a Yugoslavian (Zastava) AK in 7.62x39 as imported by Mitchell Arms years ago.

Questions:

Do your scope mounts for these AK's place the scope high enough to see the iron sights underneath while the scope is in place? Or does the scope sit closer (lower) to the receiver cover?

How difficult is it to strip the rifle with the scope mount in place? or does the mount need to be removed to take out the cover and bolt?

I'm not Tantal but I have one of his mounts.

Mine is the MTK (MKT, err...something like that) 75.

On my rifle (a SAR-3) it sits high enough and just offset to the left (not directly over the center of the rifle...apparently all of them do that and it was deisgned to be this way) to allow the use of a 40mm scope and still use the sites up to about 300 meters. If you move the site higher than that it will hit the scope.

You can strip the rifle with the scope mounted but since it is a quick take off (just pull a lever and slide the scope and mount off as a unit) it doesn't make much difference.

All in all it is a pretty nice piece, although I personally would rather it be centered over the rifle, after talking it over with Tantal and thinking about it, this isn't such a bad thing.

I had the PSO 4x which is made integral with its bracket. It sat aprox 1 1/2" high and 1 1/2 " left of the line of sight`of the iron sights. I traded it back for the LXNX 7X which sets about 3/8" left of center. I wanted it as low as possible so I modified the bracket and removed the rear sight leaf to accomodate the low stance. Works great for bench rest and accuracy testing, but-- I wanted trimmer and lighter, so I wound up grinding away the rear sight elevation rails and modified the attachment brackets of a C-MORE Serendipity red dot. Satisfaction!!! It stradles the rear sight block, perfect fit, drilled and taped two #8-32 screws on each side. It sits 1/8" above the receiver cover, perfectly centered and as soon as I get a 2 MOA module for it I'm sure it will be as acurate as the LYNX 7X to 100 yds.
Anybody want to buy a great LYNX 7X on a custom low mount bracket? Sure is pretty.
