I wish to purchase a Makarov for my "colletion". Though I have to admit I know diddly shit about them, other than the fact that they are well belt, rugged, dependable, and affordable. What are the essentials for buying one? What is a good price? How available are they, there mags, and there ammo??? Been to alot of shows and shops here in Texas and have not seen one to date!

Thank You! That is a very informative site. I think I will start looking for an E. German one. Just how plentiful is the ammo??? What, if any, US made holster/rigs fit the makarov nicely???

Read Hootbro's Mak 4 sale post.
If I didn't have a MAK right now. I would buy his.

His price ain't bad considering the matching# mag.s, the original grips, and the laynard.

Makarovs are awesome !!

O.P.

Ammunition is easy to find. Gun Shows, on the web, etc. Have found it at gun shops and sporting goods stores, but for WAY too much usually. Seems I pay less than $7/box (50 rounds) usually. A heck of a lot cheaper to shoot than my 1911s, and really as much fun.

Dillion's catalog (Blue Press www.dillionprecision.com ) is carrying holsters for them now. The only one that springs to mind was a nylon one that was resonably priced and decent looking.

Best price I've found is www.southernohiogun.com . Haven't bought one from them yet though, looks like you'll have to get a dealer to order it, not transfer it from them however.

Hootbro's sounds good too!

have fun!
