Looking through The List, I was surprised to find Winchester Model 70 .308 up to 1971 as valid C&R. Are there any other non-antique .308s on the C&R list, and why?

The FR8 Spanish Mauser/carbine is one of my favorites, has that mean looking flash supressor on it and a cool bayo. Century still has them in 'good' condition for $139. I got mine in unissued when they first came out. It's a sweet, sweet rifle and pretty accurate too. I love Carbines. My favorite. That's probably why I like AK's so much too. I've always liked short light rifles.
I picked up an Enfield 2A in .308 on my license as well, although that rifle isn't on the list. It's a danged tack driver but butt ugly. It's dated 1968.
Those are the only C&R .308's I have.

C+R means CURIO and RELIC.
Relic meaning anything over 50 years old,Curio meaning curious history, relatively few made, collectors items-special engravings, limited runs ect.....That's why some real new stuff is still considered C+R......I bet even the case could be made for say the SA-M7 or SAR rifle if they decided to silver plate 2000 of them and engrave them special edition......They'd have to submit an example in writing or actual prefered to the ATF describing why it should be on the C+R list and the ATF would decide if it qualifies.

Yes, I understand what C&R stands for. I'm just surprised to find this on The List:
"Winchester, Model 70, rifle, cal. .308 rifle, 19" barrel and Mannlicher type stock, made from 1968 to 1971."
Sure there must be some "curio" explaination why a modern .308 is on the list. I'm wondering why, what other modern .308s are C&R approved, and ultimately interested in cost & availability.

Someone wrote a letter to the ATF and got a determination on that Winchester.
One rifle I would like to get is a SVD. If you find one original Russian military issue...I don't think there's more than a handful in the country though and they aren't importable.
edit- I changed that from SVT to SVD, the Drag sniper rifle is what I was refering to.

Regarding FR8's.
Century still has them in 'good' condition for $139.
Hate to say it, Redstar, but they're sold out, according to the latest flyer. Damm, Redstar, I got to have one of those. The man's rifle, we call it. Jackass has one, and I love that rifle. I have not seen one anywhere else, but I haven't checked the auction boards, something I'm skeptical of doing.
J&G has .308 Enfield No. 7's for $169. What do you think of this rifle?

I dont have any experience with #7's. Post a Q on the Enfield forum and we can both find out. That price sounds good .
Whole different rifle than the FR8 carbine though. Dang that sucks about Century, I wanted a second beater one. The one I have now is in beautiful shape, mirror bore, beautiful walnut, nice park.

They're neat rifles. But the one I got was $169 shipped and it was in like new condition. However, since those are no longer available $149 for a good condition one may be worth it.
As long as the bore is in good shape, the stock and metal can always be refurbished. I don't know of anyone else who had them.
