The bolt on my Yugo doesn't lock back after firing the last round, but when I manually retract the bolt it catches and locks back just fine. Any suggestions?

Is the bolt stop moving freely or could it have a worn surface on it? Maybe the bolt stop during rapid ejection isn't getting the time to "grab" the bolt but when you pull it back and hold it for a second it does. Can you make it do it by manuallly working the bolt fast and letting go? I would try anf clean it out, just drive out the little retaining pin holding the stop in (take the action out of the stock) and give it a good cleaning, then try it.

ps- don't lose the little spring thats underneath the bolt stop if you take it out.
I had a SKS that would hold open during fire. Man that thing ticked me off. I put the rifle away for about ten years never knowing the problem would be so easy to fix. After I learned more about commie weapons years down the road, I dug that rifle out of the attic and fixed it in about 1/2 hour. That little spring under the bolt stop was worn out, so I made a new spring and no probs since.

If the bolt hold open checks out okay, something else you might want to check:
Take out the gas piston and spring and make sure it is thouroughly degunked. It's possible that a build up of cosmoline is slowing the bolt/carrier so that it isn't traveling back far enough to activate the bolt hold open.

The tube is special to the Yugo's spares will be hard to come by IMO send it back. If you could reream it and then build up your piston that would fix it but that's alot of work.

I finally found the time to take it apart and did find the bolt stop pretty gummed up with cosmo. Cleaned, oiled and reassembled. Don't know when I'll get a chance to take her out for a test drive, but I'm betting/hoping that was the problem.
Thanks all!
