has them for under $100.. they any good?
havent heard of them before. cant find any info on them from the net.
thanks,
Notice the silver ring around the objective bell on the compact model. It looks just like the the one on the compact Norinco scope.
I would say that New Century is a Chinese scope.
I have Red Star,Leapers, and Norinco scopes on different rifles. They are all Chinese mfg. and are a really good deal for the money.

You have a # of the compacts? You must have had some success w/ them. I've tried the 3x9 and met with basic frustration. However, the higher end Leapers seemed to perform well.
I'm curious about your experience w/ the compact as I've tried it on an AR, not too happy, and an earlier one on an SKS, same result. I will say they stand behind their warranty 100%, as the one I used on the SKS had some internal problems.
IMHO the 3x9X42 I purchased is a good to excellent scope for the money and certainly a good entry level.
I quess I'd be interested in some other feedback as I have made some optics suggestions to other members, based on my experience. The leapers scopes, as I recall, do not have AO.
Dude I hope I'm not too late but cheak out www.tapco.com first, they have 3-9X42 compact Leapers for @ 50 federal reserve notes. Nice scopes....

No direct reflection upon you guys, but...
I'm taken by the super-patriotism of a lot of folks on this board, paradoxically coupled with absolutely no compunction about helping maintain the Red Chinese in power by buying mainland Chinese goods.
Boycotting Red Chinese goods is admittedly difficult [I'm still looking for an American-made bicycle pump!], and there's no denying that Red Chinese goods made by slave labor and political prisoners are very inexpensive.

WELL SAID!!!!
Solo and Sutro,
It's not that I dont agree with alot of what you say. We (in general) have become so indunated with foriegn goods (mostly from China, Japan and Mexico) that we have (in general ) given up on looking for that "made in U.S.A." label/stamp. (Remember the campain in the 80's with linda carter...the Made in Usa campain does have a pretty web site http://madeinusa.org but not a good list of places to get say a computer with out a single chip made in CHINA Knowaddamean?
Even if you found something labeld "made in the USA" you cant know if it was made on in the maquidora (sp?) factories in Mexico that boarder the US and by law are allowed to use that label.. Or it may just be assembled here etc.
We have been screwed with for so long that we cant trust a Freakin label!
(I just looked at a link on the madeinusa.org website and the only computor I could find that was "made of American made parts where possible" is running Win95 and a "pentium Killer Cyrx chip!!! That is one old outdated and dead link amigo's!!!!)
Because our short sighted business men and politico's have sold us down the river (and by default any slave working in china or thailand or Pakistan), we tend to make (somewhat valid) excuses for our behavior...Wal-Mart would not exist without a communist china...neither would half our Stock market.
This is nothing new. Our country was founded with a slave system, the south produced aproximately 72-78% of the U.S. G.N.P. in 1860 because of cheap Slave harvested cotton. The diffrence this time is an outsourcing of that labor to where slavery is acceptable...and thus a loss of jobs for the well paid amercan factory and middle management workers.
When you don't produce you loose.
I accept that America has chosen this path, I do not fight it anymore. I will buy American products when the price to value ratio is with in range, but paying at least 4X the amount for a 2X better scope (maybe? like Burris...)
So in short I still say get the leapers...then put it on your Chicom AK clone and sleep well at night knowing that most of the slave labor is deffered to dangerous work like little children making fireworks at school (or a factory posing as a school) or that bycicle you rode today or other jobs that won't be Messed up by unmotivated/sabotaging workers...
Feel bleesed you live in a country that gave China permanent favored trade status recently. If I sound nurotic about this issue it's cause the whole country is as well. That includes all of you typing on your Chicom Computor!

I don't know that Izzy and I have an argument. Our only difference seems to be that I haven't yet given up and Izzy has.
Say, does anyone know where to find an American-made bicycle pump? The other difference between Izzy and me is that he probably has a bicycle pump.

That does speak to the problem. But seems to me that when we talk about making sacrifices for our country and for freedom, it's not too much to ask that folks don't provide financial support to our enemies. So...
Is your freedom worth the extra cost of a scope made in a free nation? Or doing without a bicycle pump?
(Darth Vader Vioce) Come, Come Sutro to the dark side! It is more poweful than the teachings of master Hamilton, you will fail to resist... ;)
Sutro, maybe if you went and looked at a high end pnumatic device you would find the "made in U.S.A." stamp. Tho next time your at a gas station, I would be afraid to look too caurfuly at the air pump...lest you find that no longer fits with your moral code.

Antares,
Been there done that. (had a brewski).
Adios amigos!

To answer the Original question
I am using a New Century Scope 3 - 12 x 50 on my L1A1 with a leapers mount. Legitimate Political concerns aside.
The scope is very clear, the illuminatnated reticule (sp) is a very nice feature as is the range finding. Elivation and windage are finger adjustable and appear uniform at the range. finish is at best mid grade. The worst thing I can say about the package is the rings that they ship with ar trash. This scope cost me under $80. dollars and has most of the same features as the 2 x 6 x 40 ATN that I paid over $240 for. (much better finnish) Over all I would recomend the 3 - 12 x 50 as very good budget scope. It is certainly not a Khales or Sheppard but none the less for the money a very good tool

NHGunNut,
I have a few questions, and since you're a user of the scope, perhaps you would have some answers to them.
Can you post the specs on the scope ?
How well does it perform through the variable range, i.e. how well does it hold zero when changing magnification?
Does it have adjustable objective? What of parallax?
What maximum distance have you used it at?
Also, I looked at the CDNN site and it's a $90 item. Where did you get it for under $80?
Is the reticle as shown on the CDNN site?
How do you feel it handles the recoil, and would you consider putting one on a 30.06.
Thanks,
wkinma
