It is against the law in NY to have a C&R handgun shipped in..is it legal to go to annother state, like say Vermont, attend a gun show, purchase a C&R handgun with your license and return to NY to register it. I am next to Vermont so this would be an option for me. Also if you travel vermont in the summer you can find handguns at yard sales! Any one have any opinions on this subject?

Probably not. You have to comply with all local, STATE, and federal laws. I imagine NY has a law against buying in another state and bringing it into the state. :(

You have and handgun license? If so and you are upstate I believe it is legal to get the C&R in the mail then have it ammended onto your license. I am on long island and after I applied for my license I got a phone call from the nassau county police wanted to make sure I knew it wasn't legal for me to do handguns in the mail but that is a local law nas & suffolk counties that I've heard theres legislation in the works to try to change. As far as I've figured out theres no state law against it but some counties have local laws against it.

I will have to research this more, I have the handgun license and I have the C&R..the C&R entitles me to purchase those type of weapons anywhere, thats the purpose of the license. I interpreted the law to read that I can't have handguns shipped to me in NY..However, since I am legally licensed to have handguns, and I am legally licensed to purchase C&R weapons, I follwed the reasoning that as long as I did not have them mailed in I was ok. My C&R is as valid in Vermont as it is in NY, so it makes sense to me...thats why it is probally illegal, 'cause it makes sense..under normal conditions I would need a 01FFL, but these are C&R weapons. It will be interesting to see what comes out of this...

the C@R entitles you to buy C@R rifles and handguns thru the mail from the state you live in.. i dont think you can go out of state and use it. what you might be able to do is go to the vermont gun show find a C@R gun and tell the dealer to save it for you and you"ll send him your C@R license and payment thru the mail. i may be wrong, its been awhile since ive looked thru the rules. so research carefully.:)

Unless a STATE law precludes it you are wrong. You can buy a weapon ANYWHERE in the United States provided BOTH State laws allow it.
In the case of NY,You guys are fucked!!! I was trying to research the issue raised here about going to another state and picking it up and give up.Frankly NY is a cesspool of anti-gun if I ever saw one.Do you know it's a crime to have more than 20 firearms in NY???(265.02)(5) (i)
You need a LICENSE to sell BBGUNS!!!!It's against the law for anyone under 16 to possess a spring or airgun!!!
OKAY FOUND IT.(265.40)OKAY maybe I didn't......It says you can lawfully acquire a shotgun/rifle in a contiguous state...Doesn't say anything about pistols.Which leads me to believe the opposite.....
You'd think with all the Jewish persons in that state they would have learned something not long ago!!!!
Sorry I can't find it,but there are links to state laws in the RKBA/Legal section sticky.
