More "MAS" 49/56 questions......Please?

Hello all,

I have a few more questions regarding the French MAS 49/56

1) What type of wood is the stock and forend ?

2) How many 49/56 rifles were made?

3) Were there ever any 20 rd mags made for this model?

4) In the past, What countries military (besides the "Legion") used this model?

5) Are these rifles still in use (military) anywhere in the world today? ... if so, who exactly?

Here is an outstanding article regarding the MAS, mostly regarding a conversion from 7.5 MAS to .308 NATO but some of your general questions are answered here. It's long but well worth the read. I'm going to pick up one of the rifles soon, even though the ammo is outrageous.

They are very interesting rifles and built like a tank! Where did you get the rifle from? How's the action?...mine was stiff (see my other post) but its getting better as I keep working the action.

I ordered it from Century this morning so I won't have it for a week or two, they've been slow shipping lately.

I'll post a report when it gets here and I'll be sure to give my opinion of the action.

I'll be looking around for more info on the rifles so if I find anything good I'll post it here.

I think you guys will like the MAS 49/56.the look and the feel of the receiver reminds me of a BAR. then you look at the magazine and that tells you ITS FRENCH MADE.
