I'm having a problem with my SAR 1. When I picked up the rifle at my dealer, I examined the rifle for a leaning sight post. It looked good, so I took the rifle home. When I sighted in, the front post had to be drifted way to the left. OK, I'm not a happy camper but I wanted to put a Kobra on it anyway. Guess what, Even the Kobra does not have enough adjustment right to get on target at 25 yards. I mean 4" or so left of POA. What gives? Is it possible that the barrel is misaligned in the trunion? Please advise.

Some Romanians have shown this problem in the past. The barrel may have been "over-torqued" (I don't recall the exact terminology) when it was fitted then pinned into the trunnion, thus causing the front sight block to be canted to the left or the right. Have a GS boresight the weapon first to make sure that it's actually the barrel.

Good luck!

Are you sure that you have adjusted the Kobra correctly? There is plenty of room for adjustment on that site. Just to be sure, take a look at my Kobra Adjustment page:

Me too. My front post is solid to the right, but it is still off 4 inches at 100yds. Not sure what to do next. Just approximate I guess.

Had the same problem with my Maadi. I E-Mailed Tantal about something else but mentioned it and he told me how to fix it myself. Take a large CENTER punch and hammer and with the fsb supported start the pins out by driving them out the uncrimped side of the fsb. Finish driving the pins completely out with a DRIFT punch. Support the barrel in a vice and using a rubber mallet hit the fsb till it moves in the direction and to the position you need. When properly positioned i used needle files to rematch the groves in the barrel to the holes in the sight base. I then started with a #31 drill(0.120) and cleaned everythig up. After which i sacrificed 2 drill bits to make new sight pins, driving and crimping them in place with red lock-tite. Hope this helps!!!

Happy New Year
