was shooting my ak today, first 20 rounds i had no problems. Then every other round, the bolt wouldnt close the entire way, i had to manually slam it forward everytime. It was getting caught about an inch before it fully closed. was shooting wolf fmj, when i inspected some of the rounds that didnt chamber, i saw that the tips of the bullets were slightly flattened, like they had hit something in the chamber. Needless to say, i was ticked off, had two 75 round drums loaded and bout another 500 rounds ready, was looking forward to today for awhile now.
If anyone could guess as to whats wrong i would grealty appreciate it.

Hard to say for sure without having been there, but maybe I can give you a couple of possibilities.
First, I'm assuming that you tried different magazines, to eliminate possibility of bad feed lips on one mag. If so, then I'd look first at the gas system. How many rounds had been fired since the system was last thoroughly cleaned, including the gas port? If you can recall; were empty cases being thrown as far from the gun as usual? If not, then I would look first at the gas system needing a thorough cleaning.

Next, I'd check the bolt and bolt carrier assemblies for dings or burrs that might have cropped up, slowing up the bolt and carrier. I'd also check the hammer where the bolt and carrier ride over it during the operating cycle.
Finally, I'd check the recoil spring assembly, and the hole in the bolt carrier it rides in, to make sure that nothing was obstucting free back and forth movement of the assembly.
If all those things check out, I'd get a small quantity of a different brand of ammo, and give that a try. Can't think of anything else that it could be. Basically, when you get these feeding problems, and you've eliminated a bad mag as the cause, then it's either not enough gas getting into the system, or something hanging up the action enough to throw the feeding cycle off.

Thanks for the reply.
I think i found the problem. The bolt wasnt rotating, allowing the carrier to slide forward. i found some damage on the bolt and in the carier groove. Im guessing this is the problem, or it could just be the result of another problem. either way, im gonna replace the bolt. now my question is, are there different kinds of bolts, or are they all the same? do i need one specifically designed for my model? and, secondly, where would u recommend getting it?
