I have a chance to trade my Colt SP1 for a Valmet M76 side folder. Both are in excellent condition, but my question is... is the M76 a more dependable, solid rifle than the AR15? What is a M76 worth? Are parts available for them and so on. Any feedback would be appreciated

I would keep the SP-1. Parts are plentiful, it is easy to work on and magazines are MUCH cheaper. The colt SP-1 is a good solid dependable rifle. I have one and am very pleased with it. It was my first rifle. I had a valmet M-76 but got rid of it because of the high cost of 5.56 magazines.

My opinion is get the Valmet. You must realize that the magazine for the AK series rifles will last almost as long as the rifle itself. These thing are almost bulletproof. Unlike the AR mags that are as finiky and flimsy as can be, AK mags are built tough.

Look at it this way, the Valmet is a far more valuable weapon, will outlast any AR made round for round (the average bbl life for an AK is 50,000 rds.) You will go broke before the rifle dumps on you. Cannot say the same for an AR. just some thoughts. cya

BTW - 1 AK mag is worth 50 AR mags in lifespan. Not entirely joking. cya

I think if you would actualy check, the only part of an AK mag that is so robust is the end where the layering is. (top of mag) The mag body is acually just as thin if not thinner than the AR-15s. The AK is made of steel though and the AR-15 is alluminum.

Do the deal and get the Valmet, very interesting and valuable rifle compared to ARs which are a dime a dozen. Also the Vlamet along with the Galil are among the best of the AK variants. I would very much rather have the Valmet, you lucky dog.

Keep the Colt. If you want an AK buy a SAR and you'll have 2 fun shooters instead of 1.
