I have managed to find a way to lock my AK bolt back I have always heard it was impossible and it shouldn't happen but it does. And my gun still works perfectly and no damage has occured. Has anyone else got this to happen? Is this bad that my AK does this?

I have an SAR-1...and if done just right it will stay open. But there is no way I can tell when it will slam shut.I have'nt had any problems with it.It shoots fine.

Palexii, If its a Chinese gun the hammer friction holds the bolt open if you ride the bolt slowly forward. Pretty common on Chinese guns.

Just shows the individual difference on guns. I have 3 Norincos and I never saw this until I saw a Bulgarian. And my Hungarian does it so well I didn't even make a hold-open notch in the safety.

Keep your fingers out of the ejection port when it's 'locked' open, because it REALLY hurts when it slams shut on your pinky!! It'll do it without warning, and you don't wanna' know how I found out this little nugget of info....

It's really simple, just follow steering and flow with it. You see, Ironhand's my thing!

Let me see if I can explain this. I have found a way to lock it open.

When you retract the bolt carrier, as the carrier passes over the hammer, it will release friction momentarily while the shaft of the bolt is passing over the hammer. Then the lug on the bolt that strips rounds from the mag hits the hammer and continues back. If you pull the trigger when the bolt shaft is over the hammer. the hammer will lock the carrier back. In order to release, pull charging handle all the way rearward and it will recock the hammer. Woks on mine and no chance of it slamming shut. cya

Backblast: My Poly-Tech and 56s1 both will dothis, but will slam shut is bumped VERY slightly. I do not use this "feature" for anything more than a visual glance into the chamber.

I have noticed this with my Yugo. While the SAR's lock open, the Yugo will not lock. If you bump it, it will close. You have to recock the SAR's to get them to go forward. cya

Backblasts method described above works great on all of my AK's. I have been using the method all summer and it has worked great! As long as his directions are followed, there is no danger of your bolt slamming shut.

Backblast's method works on my SAR3. Holds it quite solidly.
