OK, I give up. I've been trying to get this d**n shell casing out of my ROMAK3, nothing is working. I do not have a broken shell extractor for the 7.62x54r cartridge, in fact I've never even seen one. If anyone knows where I can get one please let me know.

Now, does anybody have any tips or tricks that I could use here?

TIA,
Polyak

How much of the case is left in the chamber?
Did you keep the rest of the case?
If you kept the rest of the case get a fired case and cut it to the same length. Then with the front part of the case you cut, head for the hardware store. Get a tap that will start in it but not larger than the out side diameter. Most taps sold are tapered on the end for the first few threads. Slide the tap in the chamber and give it a light tap. Use a 1/4" drive socket and extension and a socket that will fit the end of the tap. Cut 1 or 2 threads then use a cleaning rod to knock the tap/case out.

Good idea, JA. Thanks for the fast reply. Unfortunately I don't have any other fired cases laying around. I did keep the other part of the shell though. It's only about a 3/8" long, maybe it will be long enough to size it, hopefully.

Thanks again,

I had a 7.62-39 broken (twice) i my Maadi and I used a 30'06 broken shell remover and a cleaning rod.
So, I guess you could use/try that too.

Just jam a 9mm or larger brass bristle brush into the stuck case neck from the chamber end.
It's always worked for me.

You might have to knock the jammed up brush and case out with a rod through the muzzle end.

Well, actually no http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/frown.gif I went out Saturday to several hardware stores to find a tap that would fit just right. No luck there, either too big or way too small. I had tried what Valmet recommended Friday night when it happened, didn't even budge. I then thought for sure I'd be able to find an extractor at the gun show on Sunday, no luck again. There were plenty of dealers selling Mosins (same calibre as the ROMAK3) but no one had any extractors for it, they all told me to try Brownells. So now I have ordered a .308 extractor (they didn't have one for 7.62x54r), hopefully it will work and I will have a fix in the future if any more problems occur. I'm going to take it into my gunsmith if the extractor doesn't get here before Friday (would like to shoot this weekend with her). Oh well, thanks for all the advise guys, I'm just waiting now http://www.ak-47.net/akcgi/rolleyes.gif

Called K-Var today to order the Romainian Ak-74 muzzle break and front sight assy., & the Russian (?) guy I talked to told me that he had a LIMITED QUANTITY of 7.62x54R broken shell extractors. Hell, he told me he had the 5.45mm ones (I didn't know these existed!) He sold me one for $9.95. Had to have one.

Thanks for the info XXX, it's appreciated. I tried calling them about 4 different times yesterday to order the AK74 front sight post and brake myself, I kept getting their answering machine, all day. I'll try again today. I'll probably wait and see if the .308 extractor will work Ok or not, if it doesn't I'll be ordering the correct one.

Thanks.
