My MAK-90 won't feed hollow points reliably. Most hang up on the lower edge of the trunnion where it meets the top of the magazine, or chamber mouth. Sometimes it even ejects live rounds! (FMJs aren't a problem.)
Of course, I'm tempted to polish the edge of the trunnion and/or dremel out a small ramp at the bottom of the chamber; My Romanian AK has such a ramp, and it loves hollowpoints.
Anyone ever tried anything like this?
Any dangers involved?
Anyone else have hollowpoint feeding problems?

I had this same promblem while shooting Hollow point Wolf in my sar-1. T took a small dremmel ground down a nice ramp, polished it up with a stone, tested it by taking top reciver cover off inserting mag loaded with hollow points and feed them in with my finger till they slid in nice and smooth. Be sure to ck that both sides of the mag feed good. On a double stack the feed alternates from left to right. Good luck

I filed down the trunion and then smothed it out. Rounds feed in nicely from that part, but I have another problem: the HP rounds are now catching on the bottom of the camber mouth.

CAN I FILE AND SMOOTH THE CHAMBER MOUTH to facilitate feeding HP rounds, or am I better off just using FMJ? I don't want to make the gun dangerous to shoot, but I would like 100% reliablilty with HPs.

Or should I try making a small "ramp" from the trunion to the lower edge of the chamber mouth out of something like JB WELD?
