Geez, this is a dumb ass question.....

OK.... I'm planning on buying a few Swiss K31's as soon as AIM gets my C&R license.... I was looking at the ammo on AIM's site and am planning on buying it (GP-11)

Anyways, I was on www.gunsnammo.com (Wholesale Guns n Ammo) and they have some 7.5 FRENCH ammo.... Now is this the same shit? It's 7.5, but what's this french business?

Is this the same ammo? Should you try running it through a K31?

Thanks

Shawn

NO !

The 7.5 French is for the MAS rifles.

You need the 7.5 Swiss for the K-31.

I don't know the actual specifications of both types off hand but they are two completely different ordnance types. Like shooting a 30-06 through a .308.

Redstar is right!

and no matter what ANYONE tells you, NEVER put any other caliber round in a rifle than what its designed for!!!!!

and the second rule is never, ever, ever trust the French

Here is a picture of the differences in the round.

The French case is 1mm longer than the Swiss. The bullet is also larger. Not in diameter but in weight so the OAL of the cartridge is longer. Notice on the Swiss round the sharp angle of the shoulder. The Swiss case is fatter. You could probably chamber a french round in a swiss rifle but not vise versa.

These are INDEP cartridges.

Thanks guys! Those rounds look pretty damn close from the crappy pictures on the websites, and even more close when they are next to each other. I'd be lost without these forums!

Shawn did you see my post in your First C&R buy thread?

You should know that GP-11 is good ammo but it is expensive and NON RELOADABLE. Unless you can reload berdan primed cases.

The INDEP is probably slightly underpowered but it still shoots pretty good. Keep your brass whether you are reloading at this point in your life or not. Eventually you will reload. No serious shooter or firearms nut goes without doing so.
