How do i eliminate the loud safety noise associated with the standard AK. I wish to
use the AK as a predator calling rifle. This type of hunting requires that a person make no movement and no noise, to be successful.

Two methods acceptable, without cosmetic changes: (1) take out the selector lever, use a small file to file down the detent point to a blunt or almost flat spot, and reinstall, or (2) bend the selector lever a bit to releave pressure and make it have less click, or both methods. If this is not silent enough you can wrap it with black electrical tape (uhg!).
Good luck in the field! If you need something for day or especially nightfall/night to make quick acquisition of your target, send me an email for good deals on the Russian Kobra sight.

I take every one of mine OUT of the rifle, put it into a vise, and GENTLY bend out the lever... it doesn't take much.
Glue something to the underside of the safety lever. Lever moving to "fire" is cushioned by this pad as point falls in the notch. Piece of leather or folded cloth, maybe some kind of plastic?

Hey there,
I just read somthing today about Israeli soldiers tying a small piece of nylon string around the safety lever of their Galil rifles (whose safety is nearly identical to an AK)to silence the safety lever.
If it is a Maddi instal a B-square scope mount. The new pins have big nut-knobs that prevent the safty from fully going into the fire notch, so no click!Don't worry that after a couple rounds it will slide back up slightly into "safe" an you have to push it back down.
Joke.It also must be removed to clean the gun, loosing zero, so I guess it goes in the box with the cheap reciever cover mount.

As Hang-Fire says, but you can also bend the arm away from the receiver body a small amount.

I have found that just very carefully and slowly lowering the lever while giving slight pressure AGAINST the receiver and underneath the lever silences it pretty well. It is almost like putting force back up trying to "safety" the rifle at the same time you are "un-safetying" it. The click occurs at the bottom of the movement so pushing back up lessens the "click" Instead of a "click" it is more like a "cluck". The frequency of the sound changed and may not be a high enough signal to alert the game. And its free and does not alter the rifle. Honestly I have never been hunting so I cant say for sure they wouldnt hear it but its worth a shot.
