1. Just came in today. It has US PROPERTY on the receiver and the funny little S that looks like a 5 on all parts with the little bomb and flame stamped on all parts.

Neilwest, the bomb with the flame is an "Ordinance" symbol. I always call it the "ord bomb" :)

In France is was the symbol of the "Grenadeers" a type of soldier.
The symbol, oddly enough is the symbol for the 9th NYVI
"Hawkins' Zouaves" (my favorite Civil War Regiment). The American 'Zouaves' were patterned after elite French Troops - the finest soldiers of the day - my how things change.

You can just about make out the bomb symbol on the belt buckle that John L. Hughes is wearing (circa 1922). Wounded in his knee while he charged the confederate works outside of South Mills, NC. John limped for the rest of his life but still fit into his original uniform 50 years later.

.......And while I am off topic, my Avatar is another symbol of the 9th, it is a brass script "NY" for the Cartridge Box. I have this original in my collection.

1. It was missing a rear sling swivel and magazine. Also purchased a bayonet for her. Really nice, I just wish I could find an original sling for it.

Looking good neilwest! About those slings... The ones with the brass attachments are the WWII era slings. Believe it or not, but they will fit in the sling swivels. You just loop the sling through the swivel, then pinch the sides of the canvas together and push it into the "hooks." Sorry if those instructions don't make sense. It's tough to describe the procedure.
