View Full Version : "breech flash" concerns...

I recently purchased a Hesse Model 47, my first AK style rifle. The gun functions beautifully, with only some minor feeding problems from certain "suspect" mags, but there is a problem which concerns me. After solo shooting about 5-600 rounds of Wolf Brand ammo through it, I let a buddy of mine empty a few mags. What I noticed was that every 7-8 rounds I saw a brief flash coming from the breech as the bolt cycled backwards just after ejection and before the new round was chambered. I'm talking about a really quick yellow flash. Is this a problem with the bolt lock-up, or could it just be due to unburned powed remaining in the chamber.Since I havent had a chance to try other ammo, I was thinking it might be the result of the inflexibility of the steel case allowing some "blow by". Is this a serious dangerous problem, or something which is acceptable with these rifles?
Thanks

No problem that I'm aware of. Mine all do the same thing Papa, and it seems to vary from round to round.

Might be the Wolf ammo. Ever so often I get a large muzzel flash using one of my Ak's with a large diameter brake. We are talking about a 10"x4" ball of fire! I don't know if it partially ignited gas or a "rich" shell...

Sweede, maybe unburnt powder residue build up in the compensator.
I saw compansator cleaner in the Dillon catolog that claimed to be for this problem.
I wouldn't think this would be a serious problem ,but maybe iritating to competition shooters.
